No offense, but I think that might be the dumbest thing I've read. FS is in no way a bigger need than DE. You can plug an adequate player in a FS and be fine, to get to an upper level defense, you NEED a great DL. A FS is no where near as important to a defense as a DE is.
So your saying that having an Ed Reed or Brian Dawkins type player back in your secondary is not as important as a DE? Cause thats what these 2 safeties are like. Nelson is comparable to Reed since he is all over the field playing like a ball-hawk and Landry really doesnt have a weakness in his game. Plus you have better depth at the D-line anyways. Trust me, having Bob Sanders on our defense is a bigger impact than Dwight Freeney.
A pass rush would help are defense alot more than a safety, and if we can't stop the run, it won't even matter if we have reed back there, teams are still going to run right at us.

    • Getting LaMont Thompson off the field instantly upgrades the FS position. Addition by subtraction.

We should just play with 1 S and use 5 DL. We'd get the same results from the empty FS position as we did with LaMont back there, and at least we'd be able to get more of a rush and stop the run better.

      Just kidding......or am I

        • Titans | Team signs C. Solomon
          Sat, 17 Feb 2007 07:15:29 -0800

Jim Wyatt, of the Tennessean, reports the Tennessee Titans have signed free agent WR Clinton Solomon (Rams) to a two-year contract.
UDFA, he could be a under the radar signing for you guys.

          • Like I put in my mock up there, I hope that if we don't take a WR in 1, that we get Craig Davis in 2. I've been giving him to us in round 2 of my little mocks for a while now. I think he has elite potential, and could be a lead receiver in the pros.

Ok well then go for a DE in the 2nd instead of the 1st. You could always go for someone like LaMarr Woodley in the 2nd. Carriker is the only good DE outside of Anderson and Adams in the 1st round and Carriker is built for the 3-4, not the 4-3 which you run. He is almost 300 pounds therefore making him too big for a DE. Thats why I think you should go for FS first round then draft DE in the 2nd.

"A lot of people say this and say that about us, but thatís a good thing. We want to keep it low, and we donít want all the hype going with the Tennessee Titans. We want to just keep it low. Yíall just keep talking about us, talking bad about us, so we can just continue to go out there each week and show the whole world what type of football team we are." -- Vince Young

                • Last night, there was a local news interview (can't remember if it was ABC or CBS or NBC) with new GM, Mike Reinfeldt.

At one point, the interviewer asked if we would be looking to draft a WR with our first round pick or if we'd look at drafting the best player available. Reinfeldt's response was something to the effect that alot would depend on who was left on the board, but that WR or DE would definitely be looked at.

Seems to support what most of us have been thinking for some time--that WR or DE would be addressed with our 1st rounder (and NOT safety, as the Colts' fan above proposed).

Sorry...can't find a link to the interview...did anyone else see it???

                  Personally, I'm hoping for:
                  1) DE (Adam Carriker or Charles Johnson--both of whom are strong against the run and would allow LaBoy to flourish as a pass-rush specialist)
                  2) WR (Davis, Rice, or Gonzo--I'd be happy with any of them and I'm pretty sure at least one will fall to us with our 2nd pick)

                  • DE more impt than Safety

Right now DE is more impt than safety for us, especially considering the depth in DE/DT as opposed to safety in the draft. Also, anyone can do better than LaMont Freakin Thompson. So they might go DE first round unless Meachem (who apparently they are very high on) or Ginn falls here.

                    • I'm glad Reinfeldt hinted at that. It makes alot of sense, I didn't see it though, I live in West TN.

I'm hoping for about the same thing as the mock you put up. I also am not against taking a WR in rd 1, but if we do, I just hope a good defensive player falls to round 2. Based on the way drafts usually go, I'd say that it would be more likely that a CB fell than a DE, leaving us with the same DL we have now unless we address it in FA, where the pickings are slim. That's my only concern with taking a WR in 1, and not going DL....if we don't get one early, where are we going to get one at all? You can get a quality CB in rd 3.

I guess a good idea could be, like somene else said earlier, package some of our 3rd and 4th rounders, and try to move back up into the 2nd round. We could probably grab a quality DE, WR, and CB that way.

                        • One guy who's not quite on the radar, but might end up in the second round is Justin Harell. I saw him play at UT and boy he was good and tough and a terrific character to boot. So he might be a steal in the 2nd round
