The Chicago Bulls select Derrick Rose PG, Memphis

Derrick Rose gives this team the franchise player and leader they have needed since MJ retired. He not only is a playmaker at PG who can play hard nosed defense and is a huge improvement over Kirk Hinrich, but he also makes his teamates better. The addition of Rose will help the development of guys like Sefolosha, Tyrus Thomas, and Noah to go with improvement from Luol Deng. Despite the great talent and potential of Beasley for us this pick was a no brainer and this is a match made in heaven.

New Jersey Nets select: SF Danilo Gallinari, Italy

Great pick for us as he's an excellent scorer off the bench which we desperately need. Won't be pressured to carry the team with VC, Harris, Wilcox and RJ leading the way for the offense. He'll learn D with age and maturity, and he made it obvious he wanted to come here. He's smart, mature and a good leader with great intangibles.

The Chicago Bulls select Marreese Speights PF/C Florida University

Reach? Yes it is, but we love his potential and talent. We could have gone BPA with Joe Alexander however we have a logjam at SF with Luol Deng and Andres Nocioni. We could have gone SG with Brandon Rush however we got young guys Thabo Sefolosha and Shannon Brown to go with Larry Hughes. We could have chosen Darrell Arthur however we feel that the versatility of Speights that he could play both positions down low was the determining factor. Gooden is in the last year of his contract and its doubtful he will get resigned and Tyrus Thomas has one more year to prove whether he is a bust or not. With Speights we got insurance and he wont be rushed to start as he will have time to develop.
