Al Davis Steps Down, Raiders Announce Trade Block

After another disapointing season, owner Al Davis steps down from the GM position and hands it to life long fan James Rowe." Big changes are going to happen... we have solid pieces and maybe with a good draft this year we got get back to what us fans want."

Rowe also announced today that former #1 pick JaMarcus Russell can be had. "Russell this year was one of the worst QB in the league, and we need some leadership. Also WR Javon Walker is on the block"

Lions make major moves pending league approval
      Lions pursue two defensive forces
      Drew Sharp

Detroit is finalizing trade talks with two AFC teams, sources say that Martin Mayhew has been talking to the Chargers about Shawne Merriman and the Bills for Marcus Stroud. It is unknown what Detroit would have to give up for these players but I do know that second year DE Cliff Avril, and WLB Ernie Sims will be heading out of town in these deals.

      Will Mayhew's gamble pay off?

Its assumed that Schwartz will have Merriman line up at defensive end across from Dewayne White. The Lions had a chance to draft Merriman, but instead choose USC WR Mike Williams. Merriman would be a huge talent upgrade over anyone currently on the Lions defense. His knee injury, and league issues are a worry. Mayhew is taking a risk on an immense talent.

Ever since the trade of Shaun Rogers the defensive tackle position has left much to be desired. Last years starters on opening day were Grady Jackson and Sammie Lee Hill. Detroit trades for a proven talent that can clog the middle and collapse the pocket. Potentially opening things up for Merriman, and the veteran LBs Julian Peterson and Larry Foote.

Stroud would be a prescence not felt since Shaun Rogers played for the Lions

The return of Ernie Sims has some fans puzzled, but when you break it down Sims just does not have that much value. He is limited to cover 2 teams, and hasn't shown the big play ability. He is good in coverage and always around the ball but has not shown the worth of a top ten pick. Detroit gets value for him before his contract runs up. The play of 2009 third round draft pick DeAndre Levy, LB - Wisconsin in Sim's injury absence had to influence Mayhew's decision. I have been told Detroit will still have a first round pick (#16) and their original second and third round picks after the deals.

Jags Still Selling Groves - No Buyers

The Jacksonville Jaguars have been trying to trade Groves since the begining of the offseason. While they still feel Groves has potential, his play up until now has left a lot to be desired. The Jags have been asking a pretty big price for Groves, but are now willing to listen to lesser offers. They seem to be interested in acquiring a new WR.

          Campbell Seeks New Home

Former first round draft pick, Jason Campbell is in search for a new NFL home this offseason. Campbell is a young, strong armed quarterback that has not yet reached his NFL potential. In his career with Washington, Campbell has been through several offensive schemes and most recently stuck behind a very poor offensive line. In the right scheme, alongside a strong run game and improved oline, many still believe that Jason Campbell can succeed in the NFL. Teams interested in pursuing Campbell should contact owner, Dirty Thirty.

            Eagles extend Reid

After yet another disappointing season the Philadelphia Eagles have decided to extend coach Andy Reid's contract for three more seasons, which will keep him with the club through the 2013/2014 season. The Eagles finished with a 10-6 record this season and after qualifying for a Wild Card spot, they were eliminated in the NFC Championship by the New Orleans Saints. This was the Eagles 5th NFC Championship appearance in the last 10 years where they are 1-4, with the only Super Bowl appearance coming back in '04 when they lost to the Patriots. Reid has been with the club since '99 and boasts a career coaching record of 107-68-1 in the regular season and a career record of 12-8 in the post season. The contract is said to be in the area of 5M a season.

              Lions looking for secondary help

The Lions currently list Phillip Buchanon and Eric King as their starting cornerbacks. Buchanon was a free agent bust last year, falling in and out of the starting line-up. The last talented corner the Lions had was Dre Bly (traded to Denver for Tatum Bell and George Foster).

Anthony Henry's lack of speed was exposed last season prior to a move to safety

Sources report Martin Mayhew has contacted the Redskins about a conerback, stay tuned.

Kansas City, MO- After speaking to Kansas City Chiefs GM HinesWardJr, the Chiefs will be going after the best player available in this coming draft. He knows the franchise has numerous needs at key positions, but believes the depth of this draft is great and they can fill those holes as the draft goes on.

We also got word that Larry Johnson Jr and Derrick Johnson are also on the block. Several teams have inquired about them, but nothing official. Stay tuned.

Baltimore, M.D -- The Ravens may be trying to move a few former Pro Bowl players, an inside source says. Both RB Willis McGahee and TE Todd Heap are former Pro Bowlers who may find new homes prior to the draft. When asked about these rumors, GM Ozzie Newsome replied with "Yes, its true, we are trying to move certain accomplished players in an attempt to get younger and faster. We appreciate what these players have done for our franchise, but its time to move on." With the recent re-emergence of Cedric Benson, a similar runner, many believe McGahee's value would be high right now, as he has fresh legs and could be an instant upgrade at the position for a number of teams in the league. Heap has had durability issues in the past, but he seems perfectly healthy right now and is still one of the better receiving options at the position in the league. More updates to follow.

                        Raiders Land New QB

After seeing former #1 pick JaMarcus Russell not improve at all this season, the Raiders new GM James Rowe made a huge move for the organization by landing QB Tarvaris Jackson. Jackson, 26, has showed he can be a starting QB last season with his good late season performances. With Favre coming in, Jackson was benched for the future Hall of Famer. Jackson is a great athlete who fits the Raiders offence well with his good arm strength and will add his speed to get away from defenders. Jackson will have a solid running game behind with Bush, McFadden and Fargas and has some young WR's to work with. Time will tell if Jackon can get the job done, but JaMarcus Russell's future is still unknown.

49ers make trade for help on the line.

It has been apparent that one of the glaring holes, or lack there of, on the 49ers offense is a stable line. Coach Mike Singletary may have just received an answer for that problem. "Tony is a proven commodity. We think he will fit in well with what we are trying to accomplish here." Ugoh, who has recently been relegated to that of a reserve because of knee problems that required surgery during the off-season last year.

"This does not mean we will not explore the possibility of improving our line even more by means of the draft, it means we realize this area as one of concern and we are addressing it."
