Anthony Spence Will Not Be Franchised
Last week, Dallas Cowboys Owner/General Manager Jerry Jones reported that outside linebacker Anthony Spencer would receive the franchise tag. However, sources close to the situation are saying newly hired assistant GM Jay Drylie has advised Jones to allow the former first round pick to hit the free agency market.
When asked, Drylie responded, "We want Anthony back. He is in our long term plans. We'll just have to see how the offseason plays out."
Spencer, who has amassed 21.5 sacks in his five year career, was slatted to make nearly nine million dollars under the franchise tag. But as an unrestricted free agent, Spencer could now get a deal resembling the six year, $42 million contract signed by Paul Pozlusny last year.
