  • Just a quick aside, Skrtel started the season better than Carragher and Agger has outperformed him as well, he's starting to slow a little and is not the player he once was. I might give my opinion on these a little later.

I thought I do a some mid-season awards to spark some discussion.

      Best Team
Liverpool have shown they have the steel to finally mount a serious title challenge and are currently sitting proudly atop the table. Chelsea and United are lurking but the table doesn't lie so Liverpool take it.

      Biggest Surprise
Hull have surprised just about everyone and are still flying high in 7th despite some recent defeats but Aston Villa have also been extremely impressive. Currently in 4th they look as if they can beat anyone and could easily be in the Champions League next year.

      Biggest Disapointment
West Brom and Blackburn have both been poor, but some of the so called 'big clubs' like Tottenham and Newcastle performed way beneath expectations. Still, Manchester City are lying one point above the relegation zone despite having the biggest budget in the Premiership.

      Best Signing
Robinho has been one of the few bright sparks for City while Geovanni has been key to Hull's unlikely start to the season but Amr Zaki has been sensational for Wigan, scoring 9 goals.

      Best Game
United v Arsenal was full of wonderful attacking football but Arsenal v Tottenham was a fantastic match. The game had just about everything ending as a 4-4 draw after two late goals from Spurs, which started their mini-revival.

      Team of the Season
      GK: Petr Cech
      RB: Jose Bosingwa
      CB: Jamie Carragher
      CB: Michael Turner
      LB: Ashley Cole
      RM: Cristiano Ronaldo
      CM: Steven Gerrard
      LM: Robinho
      ST: Gabriel Agbonlahor
      ST: Amr Zaki
      ST: Nicholas Anelka
Laursen should be in as a defender imo and I think a place should be found for Ashley Young.

      • Aston Villa have been a really pleasant surprise. Martin O Neill is a top notch manager but to get what he's been getting out of a very young, mostly English side is superb. I hope they can sustain it but young teams do tend to run out of gas before too long.
        What if everyone simultaneously disobeys?
It aint a game if no one plays, oh.

        • Looks like Arshavin might wind up at Arsenal. Should be a great signing for them.

The other talented young Russian players, Yuri Zhirkov and Pavel Pogrebnyak, could wind up in EPL also.

Zhirkov is one of the most underrated players in the world imo.

          • Zhirkov is awesome, I wanted him for Liverpool before we signed Riera.

Its pretty hard to follow soccer over here in the states because of the time difference and television exposure but you're damn right I play FIFA.

                    • Care to offer your thoughts on the Keane deal UK?

Was he given a fair chance or was did he really not fit in at all? Personally I don't see the logic of selling him after 6 months especially when in the title mix, he's proven Premiership quality and at least provides top notch cover even if he's not starting. If he still made little impact then sell him in the summer, would have probably still got a similar fee.

Also I really like the Arshavin signing for Arsenal.

                      • I think Arashavin will be do quite well, but Arsenal really should've spent that 17m on a central midfielder.

I just don't understand how Wenger is expecting his side to finish in top 4 with DENILSON starting all these games in midfield. Their injuries are gonna kill them.

Tottenham's making quite a lot of money by selling and rebuying former players. Defoe, Chimbonda, and they practically made 10 mil on Keane.

That's where Arshavin will play for them. He'll be in Fabregas' role for the moment, Van Persie and Adebayor will be up front. Arshavin is exactly the guy they needed and suits their style of play. The problem they have now is the central defence and obviously injuries.

He simply didn't fit, fact of the matter is he looked lost the VAST majority of the time. I didn't agree with the signing then and I certainly don't now, we should have been in for a target man, as it was we bought Keane and he struggled to find space, he couldn't play on his own up front, he's not physical enough, he couldn't drop deep off of Torres as he took Gerrard's space, and he's not a wide man, I will never understand that signing. As it was I think we have done well to get in at least 12 for someone who was going to sit on the bench the rest of the season and only decrease in value, the mistake was made at the start of the season, not now.

Only problem now is our depth behind Torres is woeful now. Babel, Kuyt and Ngog aren't going to scare anyone, we needed another body to come in.

                            • I love the Arshavin deal for Arsenal, he's an Arsenal type of player and will fit in there very well.

We've also given ourselves a chance of getting out of the bottom 3 now, and we can go above Newcastle if we beat them on Saturday. :D

                              • Gerrard is out for at least 3 weeks with a torn hamstring. Looks like he's going to miss the Champions League game at Real Madrid. Maybe selling Keane wasn't a good idea after all...
