However I don't see how appreciation of nature applies to this form of hunting. What does appreciation of nature have to do with using a man made machine to kill a rather defenseless animal.
If you've ever been hunting, which I know you haven't, you'd know that a majority of the times you go out, you don't get anything. It's not this 'go off to a 100 square yard island with one deer' fantasy like thing that you seem to make it out to be. So, during that waiting, which you will do a lot of, you notice random little things that escape the eye so frequently. It's kind of hard to explain, but really, don't talk about something you really have no understanding of.

And, as I see it, 1 deer could die relatively instantly by gun shot, or be hit by a car, slowly dieing on the side of the road, starvation, etc. People don't hunt deer because they're 'mean.' It's pretty much a necissity to control the population.

I don't buy any of this "you can't comment on it because you haven't done it".

Why? Obviously you can't form an informed opinion based on what you hear.

I know this is completely out of context and probably not even relevant but anyway - what about drug use within the community? are you saying everyone needs to take heroin to understand how bad it is?
Once again don't jump down my throat because this isn't even close to the same thing but im just saying its the same basic principle

I never said to understand what it feels like, but just to know what kind of a negative impact it can have on your life. terrible example i know but it was the first thing that came to mind when that guy said that. i just had a quick moment of what many people on these boards live through their entire lives, speaking without thinking

I guess you can't have an informed opinion on dog fighting, because you've never been involved in it. Or one on killing somebody, because you've never done it.

See if my brain still actually worked instead of me smoking and drinking it away i would of come up with that example, instead of my ever so successful heroin one

Hunting helps control the deer population. It's regulated by the DNR as to how many liscenses are issued and the limit on deer per person. With out hunting it would be over populated and many deer would die anyway because the environment can't support all of them. Most hunters eat what they get, and there's an organization that will take extra or unwanted meat and donate it to the homeless. Killing a deer is no worse than buying steak from the store.

I never said anything about that. I just said that just because you haven't done something, it doesn't mean you can't comment on it intelligently.
