    **Official Boxing Thread**

Well, this is a very big weekend for boxing as there are two opposing PPV cards. One, Tarver-Hopkins, features two old fighters (Hopkins will retire after the fight), but is historically significant. The other, Cotto-Malignaggi, features one very young budding superstar(Cotto) taking on a very talented prospect in Malignaggi.

I would have to lean towards Tarver in the 1st fight, but it is close, really close. B-Hop could easily pull out the victory, because he will be laying it all on the line (I hope). Tarver is going to be way bigger though as he is naturally about 15 lbs. heavier, I think that gives him a big edge. While the fight is significant historically, style-wise it makes for a very boring fight and would be a strech to order for 50 bucks seeing as HBO will be replaying the fight next weekend.

I will be attending the Cotto fight and I am pretty amped about it. It is a fight that Cotto should win, but Malignaggi can frustrate people with his speed and slick boxing, Plus his trash talking can get under peoples skin. However, Malignaggi, by all accounts, cant punch for power. This will present a huge problem for him as Cotto should be able to walk him down and impose his will as the harder puncher and larger man. I think Cotto KO's him around round 8 or so.

If you want to buy a PPV this weekend I suggest you go with the cotto show. It is 15 bucks cheaper at $35 and features a 5 fight undercard, and the other fight will be replayed on HBO. It feature great prospects like John Duddy, Juan Manuel Lopez, and Julio Ceasar Chavez. Also, it has Tommy Zbikowski(sp?) fighting his debut. He is not a great prospect, but is getting attention, so it will be cool to see him.

Any of you guys catch the British card last night? It wasn't the biggest names out there on a world scale but there were somer really good fights.

Mitchell vs Linares was a good title fight, Selby looked class in winning his belt, Kell Brook did Kell Brook things (He needs to get a big fight soon!) but for me the highlight was the continued progression of Anthony Joshua, someone needs to get this guy a bigger name, he's knocking out people like it is nothing!

I actually found that fight really surprising. I expected Algieri to be on his bicycle and counter, but he just came forward all fight. It was a really great strategy except that he kept selling out for the right hand. Every time he threw it, he was out of position for landing any follow up strikes. He landed hard rights several times but couldn't follow up.

Algieri looked great, but at the same time, Khan has no business calling out anyone after that fight.

Canelo is dangerous but his fight against Trout left me worried about his stamina. Haven't been reading much about what his strategy is gonna be going in against Floyd, but if he makes it a technical, 12 round pick your spots type of fight, he's gonna get dominated. I'm rooting for Canelo 10000000%, but i have a feeling he's gonna get picked apart by Floyd.

I'm actually going to watch Canelo-Mayweather. Could very well be the end for Floyd. Canelo is super dangerous.

Went to my first proper boxing fight at the weekend watching Amir Khan and Paul McCloskey. Disgusted by the stoppage even though Khan was winning comfortably. For value's worth probably the most exciting thing Ive ever been to despite it not being the best fight ever. One thing though, if Khan fights like that against Bradley he'll get beaten badly

    Cotto/Mayorga was an entertaining fight.
Went all the way to the 12th round and there weren't many boring rounds.
Mayorga tried his antics but Cotto kept his cool.
Mayo ended up breaking his hand, it looked like but he didn't hit anything right before it happened. Weird.

Tommy Z (Ravens safety/ex-ND) won by a KO in the 1st round.
Knocked the dude out... he got back up and said he was okay but the ref stopped the fight.
    Also weird.

Paw ended up putting a whooping on Y.Foreman. Wasn't a fair fight.
Why Foreman took this fight after repairing his ACL, I don't know.

Overall, a pretty good fight night.

Just retire already, Holyfield. Although you gotta give the man props, he's still built like a beast at 48 years old.

Yeah I know Floyd was out because of his legal problems but my dream was for Martinez even though that's probably way too big for him or at least something more exciting like Berto. This fight has a chance to be another lopsided fest the only difference being he won't drop Sugar shane and Shane has a chance with his power at any moment. Should keep us watching since he can hurt Manny so we'll see. At the very least it will be much better than the Clottey fight.

I guess I'll be watching that too. Every Pacq fight is worth watching.
Wish it was against Mayweather though. Maybe he should stop beating up bouncers and security guards and fight Manny!
