It is one of the few comedy routines I can watch while my kids are in the room.

Mitch Hedberg, Mitch Fatel, Bob Marley are some of my faves.

Off the top of my head:
        - Lewis Black is probably my favorite right now. I actually got to see him perform two weeks back at a Casino. It was incredible watching him use completly new material and being a fan I know it was all new stuff. It was also great watching him make up jokes on the spot after people would yell **** at him.
        - Davis Cross is for sure tied with Black as my current favorite comedian. His stand up is pure gold.
        - Doug Stanhope is a lesser known comedian but I love his stuff. It is so ******* foul and yet so funny.
        - George Carlin will always be my all time favorite.
        - Richard Pryor not only because he is one of the all time greats in many peoples eyes but because I just love watching him perform.
        - Bill Hicks is just full of win
        - Andy Kaufman is a sentimental favorite of mine. I try to model whatever stand up routines I write sort of after him but I am neither smart enough of funny enough to really pull stuff like that off. If I were to include all the **** Kaufman did besides stand up I would rank him tied for one. I just think he is so brilliant.
        - Dennis Leary because I think his stand up stuff is ******* great.
        - Sam Kinison just because I ******* love every routine I have ever heard of his.
        - Lenny Bruce because I respect the hell out of him and I actually enjoy many of his routines.

Dammit, how could I forget David Cross. He's an excellent stand-up comedian.

I've never been as big a fan of Lewis Black as most. I don't listen to a whole lot of stand-up anymore, I used to a lot 3-5 years ago.
My favorites are what you'll probably find most in this thread: Hedberg, Carlin, David Cross, and Eddie Izzard.

I haven't seen much Lewis Black either. I just hope his stand up is better than that lame mock trial show he recently had on CC. That show was lame as hell.

                            1) George Carlin- A legend, everything out of his mouth is pure genius.
2)Mitch Hedberg- May be funnier than George Carlin, but Carlins longevity put him over the top
3)Bill Hicks- The greatest social critic of modern times, his biting satire is right up alongside the all time greats like Jonathon Swift(A Modest Proposal)
4)Dave Chappelle- Absolutely hilarious, the high water mark of racial humor.
5)Jim Gaffigan- Hot pockets, need I say more?
6)Nick Swardson- His bit about hiring John Stamos to cry at his funeral is comedic genius, the rest of his stuff isn't as good, but funny nonetheless.
7)Eddie Izzard- A crossdressing brit? His persona is as funny as his jokes.
That is as far as I can go, because there are two many people at the second tier. You will notice a severe lack of old timers, and that is because I don't find most oftheir humor relevant to the times, so I rarely listen to them.
I hate to advocate drugs, alcohol, violence, or insanity to anyone, but they've always worked for me.

Coincidentally, I was going to post that exact same video of Jimmy Gaffigan, weird. I like Gaffigan and Black of the newer comedians the most...Dave Chappelle of course. Andy Kaufmann and Robin Williams are great too. George Carlin is classic too. I like Mitch Hedberg, but I think he's overated. Good, but not as great as people make him out to be. The one-liners thing is funny, it gets better as the show goes on, but I think if he didn't die he wouldn't be as famous. John Belushi is another comedian I really like, he's my style.
