Sure gallo fits mike d's scheme, but mike D isn't the only coach who likes smart players who pass well, have a good understanding of the game, are wet from three, are constant mis-matches and are crafty on D. this team was high on Gallo before D'Antoni, and when D'Antoni was brought on board Walsh confirmed with him that gallo fit mike d's scheme.

It's not like we didn't scout him and once mike D came aboard we suddenly decided to select gallo, our scouts have been watching this kid for a few years now and Walsh was very high on him as well. Unless we brought in a different coach with whom gallo just didn't fit we'd probably have selected Gallinari with or without coach D'antoni.
IDK I guess you can't say that it's 100% true Walsh might have still picked Gallo if D'Antoni wasn't the coach.

What do you mean D'Antoni didn't scout Gallo?

...like he didn't break down film, didn't watch him in private workouts and didn't talk to his European contacts including the guy's father in building his own evaluation of the player?

Walsh doesn't have such a rich history of drafting Euros that would lead me to believe Gallinari would've been the pick. If he had, that would've been on thing, but he doesn't.

But thanks for the interesting discussion.

D'Antoni admitted in interviews last offseason that he hadn't really watched gallo play and it was Walsh that really liked the kid. I know there's the obvious gallinari Sr. - D'Antoni connection but that wasn't really significant part in the selection of gallo. Walsh is really high on the kid and has said he thinks he has Bird-potential, I know walsh isn't a big euro guy, I think he was just really high on Danilo Gallinari the prospect.

Be honest, you were one of the thousands and thousands of Knicks fans that booed the pick. It was one of the funniest scenes at Madison Square Garden when the Knicks announced that pick. The Boos were classic.
you can look back at my posts on it I didn't want Gallo I admit it. I usually go with blindly disliking Euro Prospects know matter who they are but I admit I was wrong I do like Danillo I see his talent and its not cause he is a Knick neither even if he was on the magic or the laker or any team I would be saying the same thing.

...way to man up to it. I was a Courtney Lee hater leading up to the draft. Then when it happened I was forced to have hopes for him. Luckily he has exceeded my best expectations and I am a loser for hating him in the first place.
