Weight-Lifting Thread (General Fitness Thread)

  • Let's get this thread back on the first page!

    I'm getting Mark Ripptoe's book, "Starting Strength" for Christmas. I've been doing the workouts for about 2 weeks now, and it's a great full body workout. I've been lifting and cutting for about 5 months now with great results (Was 227- now 188). I was going to start bulking on the first day of 2010, but I don't think I'm lean enough. I think I'm going to spend the next 2-3 months cutting down to 175. Even though, Starting Strength program is recommended to take place when bulking, I've seen it work well when watching calories. I'm going to be 100% clean in my diet, and try to get 1 gram of protein per bodyweight. On my off days, I'm going to do 30-45 minutes of cardio. Hopefully, it works out well for me.

      • I think I wanna do a mini cut for like a month and half - two months. Lean myself out before the final bulk before summer. Then another cut right before summer hits.

        • Just introduced milk into my diet because some people suggested it in this thread. Didn't go well today haha. My stomach hurt like hell in the gym today, most likely from drinking the milk last night. Seems like a really great way to pile on some extra calories though, so we'll see how it works out. Probably won't drink it before going to bed again on a night before a gym day.

                of course man, of course. The whole reason free weights are better is because they require you to stabilize and balance the weight. Keeping form on stuff like cleans is also great for coordination.

                    Personally, I think you're going for too many reps per set but other than that you have every major area covered. A lot of people neglect back, you don't so kudos. My one thing I would suggest is a warm up and cool down such as stretching.

                              • In high school I went from benching 225 beginning of junior year to 325 at end to 375 of beginning of my senior. My workouts was mainly less reps more weight. We tried that bigger faster strong bullcrap but I honestly don't notice the difference.
