  • damn i hate when i don't life for a while, i just feel like a failure and then when i go i have no idea what lifts i should do.

In high school, I lifted just to look good for the girls and show off how much I can do.

Now I just lift to be strong and it gives me a great rush. As a result of being strong, I can hold my own if I end up in a fight. That's motivation for me.

                • Yeah I'm up around 6 so I dont really get a benefit on any lift really. Not quite tall enough to excel at deads, but too tall to get an advantage at bench or squat. But, yeah, if you move 3 plates with a full ROM, you are strong, really strong.

Which begs the question, at what point would you actually consider someone to be strong? A lot of lifters debate this. A 400 lb. dead is often the agreed upon thing, but I think thats a bit high, if you have ever been in a gym you know there are a TON of weak ass people out there.

I have a great vert and I am really close to dunking a real sized b-ball, but it's frustrating that my hands are so short. So there are disadvantages to it, haha. I have to squat more to be able to do it, and squats suck!!

I'm a highschool teacher and I'm often in the school's weight room.

This 400 lb. deadlift mark is OFTEN hit by these kids. I'm surprised its not higher. I know one sophomore dead lifts 560 lb, squats 460, and benches 260. Granted, he's a freak of nature, but that still seems low.

                      • 400 dead is not really hard, but it kills me to see so many kids do it everyday and lift purely with their back with just horrible form. I seen this all the time in high school.

Nothing wrong with that though. People aren't gonna get stronger sitting around at home. Not to mention being strong really isn't important to that many people, they work out to be healthy.

I'm 6'3-6'4 so my height holds me back on some lifts.

What do the vikings and marijuana have in common? Every time you put them in a bowl
                          they get smoked.

                            • I love seeing weak people in the gym trying to get stronger and doing useful exercises. I hate seeing weak people work hard on a terrible routine and get no results.

A 400 lb. deadlift is not easy.......not with correct form anyway.

I actually did hit 2 plates. Damn, my calculation skills are off I guess haha. Yeah, it felt really god damned awesome. Considering I couldn't even do one on each side last April, I'm pretty damned proud of myself.

I'm 6'2, and I'm able to play a pretty mean power forward and as a boxer I usually had reach on most of the guys my height, so it's safe to say I probably have fairly long ass arms. The thing that really holds me back sometimes though is that I have a **** ass wrist. I've broken both of my wrists, my left one three times. Gets sore all the damn time, even with wrist supports.
