As long as that King's Ransom was tons of closeish to major league ready hitters, they should. Their offense is so ******* terrible, and it's not going to be good any time soon (I like Ackley, but outside of him it's quite cloudy). I honestly don't get why they passed up Rendon for Hultzen based on that, but whatever.
Even if all they could get was projectionable high grade prospects who were still years away. It would be within their best interest. As you said it's not going to get better any time soon. Felix is just going to waste. Ackley's a great building block for sure...but the cupboard is bare. You guys think they'd be pissed about trading Felix? haha. Really they should trade he and Ichiro. lol. That would surely piss off their fans, but it's time to rebuild it again.
I would give Smoak more of the benefit of the doubt if he was smashing on the road, given how hard it is to hit at Safeco (although it's not that bad for lefties and he's a switch hitter), but he's been awful on the road and he's a first baseman. He has done nothing to impress me. And of course, the Mariners are saved by the rain.
The Reds might be a fit for Felix, but outside of Mesoraco, I don't really like their offensive prospects.
There have been tons of trade rumors involving the Nats. They want a young CF real bad...being linked to Span, Bourn, BJ Upton, Rasmus, and now Bourjos. All guys I would love in Atlanta, obviously. But yeah, apparently they're really hot on CFs and wouldnt mind throwing Clippard in a deal to acquire one.
I like these types of moves for the future. Contenders and sellers arent the only teams that can make deals. :)
