If Bard became the sawx closer, I'd be more scared. He's better than Papelbon and his stuff is downright filthy
Well it won't likely happen unless Papelbon starts blowing saves. He hasn't pitched great this year or last, but he's 47/51 in save opportunities since the start of 2009 (for comparison, Rivera is 48/51 in the same time). He's finding a way to get the job done, despite being on a decline and not pitching as well. I think the only way he loses his job is if Boston trades him. There were rumblings about them looking to deal him in the offseason and I think they'll pursue a trade in the likely event that we're out of contention in July.
