  • I'll say what you're all thinking: If the Phillies had just kept Cliff Lee, this wouldn't even be an issue right now...

Neither are any of the other players. The Astros must be really hard up to get rid of a lot of Oswalt's contract if they are willing to pay nearly as much as is being reported. Complete turnaround from how McLane used to act.

      • I still never expected the Phils to move Happ, though. Mildly surprised.

        • It's a tough pill to swallow, but Happ will probably never be what Oswalt is now. That alone makes it worth it. I like Happ a lot, but he's a #3 at best. Oswalt would be one of the best #2's out there right now and is pretty reasonable for next year as well.

          • It's amazing how highly teams value pitchers like Joe Saunders and Happ.

            • Happ is cheap and solid. He's also a lefty. He has some potential and could be a nice innings eater. Nothing not to like. Teams don't love him, though.

Frankly, I'm shocked that the Angels got Haren with Saunders as the lead return piece...

Deal not official yet, but it looks very close. Roy and Roy on the Phils.

                  • 12:12pm: Oswalt plans to OK the deal, but it's not official yet, reports Stark. He adds that the Astros will be sending $11MM. Rosenthal tweets that Oswalt's 2012 option will not be exercised; he'll be compensated some other way. ESPN's Amy K. Nelson tweets that Oswalt will get $1MM added by the Phillies to the buyout of his '12 option. ESPN's Jerry Crasnick tweets of a rumor that speedy outfield prospect Anthony Gose may be in the deal. AOL FanHouse's Ed Price tweets that he's hearing Gose and Worley could be in the deal.

Id rather have Singleton than Gose.

Maybe it's my homerism and exclusively following Phillies prospects but I think Singleton could very well be a special prospect. Maybe not special but worth a trade for, definitely. He's shown some decent patience and now that in Lakewood he's being pitched around to, he's had a bit of trouble adapting. Looks to have turned the corner again a bit. Ridiculously high on him.

Happ's ERA was nice last year but he was basically a flyball pitcher, wasn't he? He had some luck going his way and his BBs were nauseating at times. BUT, there will always be a spot in the Bigs for him somewhere as like bsaza said, he's an innings eater, a solid mid-to-end of rotation guy and by all accounts (like this matters), but he's a good dude. Either that or pathetic judging by that one quote where he talked about living by himself.

Another deal I'd love is Rizzotti (he's batting .360 in AA but he is 25 and struggled until this year), Worley and Happ for Oswalt. But unrealistic right?

Comahan: I'd rather give up Gose than Singleton so yeah. Gose, though, isn't a bad prospect at all. In fact, he's developed pretty well as of right now. Or at least better than the tools-y outfielders the Phillies tend to draft.

                      Is that a rash?

I wasn't referring to Singleton. If he's in the deal (which it looks like he isn't) then I think its a good deal for the Astros. I was really talking about all the other prospects.

                          Ahh okay, makes sense then.

Vance Worley is definitely in this deal along with Happ and I guess we can assume Gose?

                          • I wonder if Oswalt really forced his value down by really limiting the teams he'd accept a trade to.
