  • I really just can't believe the Astros are going to pay 11 million. Oswalt is etiher owed 24 million through 2011 or 37 million through 2012 and the Astros are going to pay 11 of that and get that return?

Or Ed Wade is a puppet controlled by the Phillies to destroy the Astros. It's like the ****** kid you invite to be the 12th man in a fantasy league.

If it's really Gose, Worley & Happ for Oswalt (with the 'Stros eating out some of the contract), then this is a nice win for the Phils.
      Is that a rash?

They probably should if they're going to pay that much of the contract anyway.

          • 12:51pm: Gose and Happ are definitely in the deal, tweets CSN Philly's Jim Salisbury.

            • I like Gose, but unsure why the Astros took him. He's a speedy guy without a lot of power. Kind of like Bourn. You probably shouldn't have 2 of those guys in your OF if you expect to win. Not that I'm really complaining, but Houston is stupid.

Now have 2 people, not involved in trade, saying Phillies trading Jonathan Singleton in Oswalt deal. If so, that's a good get for Astros.

btw, Hellickson was pulled to "limit his innings".

They probably just dont want to pay Bourn down the road.

I really hope thats true. Im already miserable that we have to deal Oswalt (Hes with Bagwell/Biggio/Berkman in terms of guys i never, ever want/wanted to see leave the town), but not getting a lot back for him would make it a lot worse.

                    • I really don't want them to part with Singleton. The Phillies haven't had a big IF prospect (or sans Brown, positional player) since Howard. Singleton is practically the only one with a high projection (I love Villar, Galvis's glove and Garcia but I'm not sold on them being starters) in the system.

                      • I would like to keep Singleton too, but he's not going to be a Phillie in the end because he's blocked by Howard. The guy was going to be dealt within the next 3 years if he continued on this track anyway. Might as well be for a guy with almost 150 wins and a proven playoff pitcher.

I know he's still far away from the majors, but wouldn't Singleton be blocked by the huge contract of Howard.

I feel like in 3-4 years RUben Amaro's tenure will not be viewed favorable between:

-Howard's Contract(He'll decline by that point.)
                            -Trading prospects
                            -Lee fiasco

If Utley leaves in FA, what's left in 3 years when Halladay goes?

If they play Singleton like they normally do, he'll be in Clearwater next year with a possible cameo at AA in August. They'd keep him AA for the whole year probably and then it'll get awkward. Rarely do they keep guys at AAA for more than a month or so (usually trades or call-ups) so he'd be blocked in 2.5 years still. I'd just want to trade him later on but you never know how his value changes.

Rizzotti is also kind of blocking Singleton to at AA but he's a mediocre fielder and he's blowing up this year but has been fairly average throughout his career and Reading is a hitters ballpark. Not sure if he can keep up a .360 average.
