OH NO A LOSING RECORD, HE MUST SUCK. RECORD DETERMINES EVERYTHING! Shame they gave the Cy Young to such a piece of **** like Felix Hernandez with a 13-12 record when CC Sabathia had that great 21-7 record.

Felix had a winning record and a 2.27 era pitching for the Mariners.

Joba is an overrated piece of ****.

Although they made some changes to his delivery and he was hitting 95 yesterday early in camp which is promising.
I was basically just saying he is overrated. People talk up Joba every year because of his rookie campaign but he just hasnt been the same pitcher since then.

Who gives a **** about ERA. Joba struck out a lot of people, kept his walks at an acceptable rate, and limited homers. If he keeps that up, he will be fine regardless of whether his fastball can hit the upper 90s (it ******* averaged 94.6 last year Jug, I'm not sure why 95 is such a big deal).

Yeah, who gives a **** about era....I mean giving up runs doesnt hurt your team or anything right?

His era sucks but he sure strikes out a lot of guys! WHOOOOOOO!

Just ignore how much ERA depends on luck and defense and the like.

Well if you have a bad defense wouldnt most of the runs be unearned?????

                hmmm....

AJ Burnett struck out quite a few guys last year, was he good?

Errors don't account for horrible defense there Sickwithit, but nice try. This could be why Derek Jeter gets Gold Gloves, because he makes no errors but is a godawful defensive player.

And Burnett's strikeout numbers were waaaaaaaaaaaaaay down, so not even close. Factor that in with a lot of homers allowed and his usual below average control, and he sucked.

Joba sucking has nothing to do with the yankees defense man.

He still averaged 7 per 9 IP, so thats not that bad.

Damn, I guess my freshman year in college I must have really ****** blew....I gave up the most home runs on the team but my ERA was 2nd on the team and tied for the lead in wins....but those dont mean anything I guess.....I mean I gave up home runs.

It's bad when he has below average control as a fly ball pitcher that is homer prone. And you're comparing college to the MLB, where rate statistics matter a hell of a lot more (and I doubt you would have been able to keep it up unless you struck out a lot of people or managed to keep the ball on the ground).

Joba's problem was pitching out of the stretch, and that is something that can be fixed pretty easy. He had terrific peripherals, and I do not expect to see his ERA nearly bad as 4.40 this year if he keeps it up.

Well he had a 4.75 era the year before last so....I sure hope he gets better.

                        • He just sucked in 2009, but that is the oddity in his four year career.

I don't know who talks up Joba. After one year it was pretty obvious he wasn't going to be a starter. And now it's pretty obvious unless he turns it around he'll never be a closer either. There is still huge upside there if another team can ever figure out how to get him back to that form.

94.6 seems high after watching him all last year. The YES network gun is notoriously slow though and that is where I watch most of the games. His velocity is just all over the place. One day he struggles to hit 90 and then the next day up at 96. And the slider isn't nearly as filthy as it was when he first came up. The break on it originally is totally different than it is now.
