  • R.I.P. Major Richard "Dick" Winters

The famous commander of E Company, 506th Regiment, 101st Airborne "the band of brothers". He wrote an incredible book called Beyond Band of Brothers: The War Memoirs of Major Dick Winters and was truly a hero of WWII.

RIP to one of my role models.

If you ever watch the series "Band of Brothers", at one point, right after the D-Day invasion, Winters leads a platoon against an attack on a German artillery position. The attack was so successful that it is still outlined in Army FM 7-8 The Infantry Riffle Platoon and Squad.

    "Currahee", Major Winters.

I loved Band Of Brothers. I was trying to find another book he wrote.

I watch BoB at least once a year.

Same. It really is one of the best produced shows/mini-series/movies, whatever i've ever seen. And that quote I posted gets me all the time.

That Winters survived the D-Day night jump, the subsequent 2-3 days of combat then was able to perform his heroic team leadership in knocking out the battery of feared German 88s is phenomenal. And he did a remarkable job of recounting it in the book that was the basis of BoB. Medal of Honor material.

                RIP.

A true badass right there, and an awesome leader of men from the squad level on up.

What a fascinating person. May his grandchildren, great grandchildren, and so on never see a war like the one he fought in.
