                  One number is twice another. Their sum is 120. Find the numbers.. I know the answer is 40 and 80, but i dont know how to show my work. I hate the beginning of the year, because your rusty on everything.

                    In math and physics, it always help to break down what you have and analyze from there.

                    So we have X and 2X.

                    Their sum is 120.
                    We can now say that X + 2X = 120.

                    Find the numbers.
                    X + 2X = 120
                    => 3X = 120
                    => X = 40.

                    Thus, the numbers are 40 and 80.

                          From my expierence, most teachers don't actually check your work, so I just fill up space with random numbers, then write the answer.
