Actual musical talent > Talking with a beat in the background.

Obviously it's not all rap, but in general.

That's why I said rap in general...certain rap bands/artists that actually have meaning in their songs are the exception, not the rule. I'm just usually partial to the thing that sounds better.

i wouldn't have been so harsh. i just full on loathe FF.

there's always more to rap than lyrics. good production is half the battle. now, good production to me and good production to everyone else is probably different (seeing as i will listen to tupac - all eyez on me twice a week). I like dre and j.j. but i like these kids and their toys. the way ant from atmosphere and aesop put stuff together. danger is slick (see dangerdoom).

                          • i agree there are some good rap artist. or hip hop artist. danger being one. the other side of Dangerdoom is good. M.F. Doom. The Roots are a good hip/hop group that uses instruments especially Phrenology.

I'll be the first to admit Franz Ferdinand isn't original or meaningful or anything, I just like the way some of their songs (The Fallen, Take Me Out) sound.

Really the only rap band I've ever been able to stad, and I've said this before, is Outkast because they usually include something different in their songs as well. Examples being "The Whole World" and "Hey Ya" in which it's more than just rap.
