  • Help!

Here's the situation: I had my headphones plugged in the headphone jack on my laptop, and in a mad fit of clumsiness I managed to hit the plug and now the jack is some kind of broken. Now, whenever no headphones are plugged into the jack, no sound comes out from my computer speakers. Whenever I do plug in my headphones, the sound comes from my computer speakers and not my headphones.

Does anybody know what happened and/or how to fix it? Is it something I could do myself, or should I bring it somewhere to get it fixed?

you probably bent the jack and shorted something. I would bring it in to be fixed.

Nice, but I don't live at my parents house anymore.

Anyway, this really sucks, I used the headphones a lot at work. My computer isn't under warranty anymore either, does anybody have a clue how much something like this could cost?

                Just given you some crap.

Well a headphone jack is really just a plastic peice that connects into the motherboard. If it has come lose...it is possible to solider it back on...otherwise it might not be fixable.

Yeah, I did a little bit of research, and found something pretty similar. In the case I read up on, the headphone jack stopped working completely but the computer speakers still worked. I found it pretty odd that my computer speakers don't work unless I plug in some headphones.

Anybody ever take apart a laptop? How much of a ***** is it?

When I was young, I was so much younger than today,
I never needed anybody's to help me in anyway.
But now these days are gone, I'm not so self assured,
Now I find I've changed my mind and opened up the doors.
