  • So if you were starting an NFL franchise

What position do you select with your first ever draft pick? I know you all will say it would depend on the talent pool, but if they were all equally graded what would you pick?

QB, you hardly ever see a team win a super bowl without a legitimate QB.

I would have to say LT. I would build my team through solid play in the trenches and then work my way out.

Like the Buccaneers, Pittsburgh, and Baltimore?

All depends on free-agents and who I can get in the selection process thing.

Punter, they are undeniably the key to a team's success.

I'd pick a defensive tackle who could dominate in any defensive scheme and be a 3 down lineman. A guy who can take on three blockers as a 34 Nose Tackle and stop the run and collapse the pocket in a 43 being able to play both UT and NT.

I'd probably build my team around a dominant all purpose RB like LT. With the right coaching you can put any QB in and make a system work.

QB, easily. It all starts with him.

LT had Brees = All-Pro and Rivers = 4th overrall selection, big upside.

                      They aren't exactly bums.

I'm saying in general that with the right coaching it doesn't take a top notch talent to be a successful NFL starter.

Even having seen first hand what LT can do as a RB to boost a franchise, I still think you have to start with the QB. They are what make the offense go, and they are the ones who need to know what every player does on every single play. They're the face of the franchise and the heart and soul of the offense, so you need a great signal caller to start a great franchise, IMO.
