Will Marty Shottenheimer ever return to the NFL?

He's expressed an interest in the last couple seasons, particularly if some GM responsibility came with it.

What does everyone think?

I think the Lions could do a whole helluva lot worse, although I'm not sure he's in for another rebuilding project. Cowboys might seem like a mismatch if Wade bites the dust, given Marty's rep for not winning the big game, but honestly I think his temperament could do them some good.

I don't think Shottenheimer was ever in the NFL. Schottenheimer might though

But yeah, I think he deserves another chance, his problem was bringing a team OVER the hump, but a lot of teams out there need someone to get them to said hump before they can worry about getting over it.

If that one db had just kneeled after the freakin interception instead of letting Brown knock the ball loose Marty may have a ring right now.

Hopefully to coach the Vikings. He is 65 so he isn't that old really and he could build a team up for 4 or 5 years than turn it over and retire.

Marty has tons of time left on his clock, brings a good offensive scheme that's compatible with a bunch of struggling teams right now.

I'd actually really like to see him in minnesota.

Schottenheimer emphasizes offensive attacks that work as follows:

* First down: a rushing play.
* Second down: another rushing play.
* Third down: a pass attempt.
* Fourth down: punt (or field goal, if within range).

Actually, Romeo Crennelephant gets canned and they bring Marty back to finish what he started!

No, actually winning an AFCCG.

I think Marty would make a great GM for a team in the NFL. As a coach I think he's done and the game has passed him by.

I think it's funny. Go look at the coaching trees, the issue is is that Childress uses a bastardized version of martyball which is inherently worse.

Bucs_Rule 10-23-2008 05:06 PM

I heard he'd only come back as a coach for a contender to try to win a SB. With his record that will never happen. He'll be given a chance as a GM somewhere.

Cowher was in 2 superbowls, Winning 1 and having one of the best records during his tenure in the NFL..

Largely due to having a great defense and utilizing Marty Ball.

Something like 120-2-1 when leading by 11 at the half.

Schottenheimer likes the 3-4 so.. I'm guessing a return to cleveland.

Cleveland has a strong OL, Hard runner, possible future Franchise QB, the framework for a tough defense, excellent ST's.

Bring him in this year, sign a Vet WR or 2.. Trade Winslow and Edwards, draft another heavy Runner to eventually take over for Jamal Lewis and build up that defense.

With Schotty, I think that Cleveland could be a force in a year or 2. Provided that they work together.
