Wow! Didn't see it coming this year.

The blockbuster of the coaching season just came in: The Denver Broncos fired Mike Shanahan.
Shanahan had three years and upwards of $20 million remaining on his contract
I think he automatically becomes the best HC candidate out there.

RaiderNation 12-30-2008 05:41 PM

Sign him Al!!!! He forgives you for firing him

djp 12-30-2008 05:50 PM

Gonna be weird to see someone other than Shanahan roaming the Denver sidelines.

I wonder if Detroit makes a run at him.

Jimmy 12-30-2008 05:50 PM

Good move- he just flatout wasn't doing his job.

I dont think fans of any team but the Broncos realize the significance of this move. Schefter and Terrell are making this out to be a poor move. TD claimed this was a coach who was consistent and irreplaceable. Sure, consistent in a sense that he has consistently missed the playoffs in the last decade without Elway, has won 1 playoff game, and has been the leagues worst drafting headcoach.

Before everyone starts questioning this move, just know 80% of the supposed "restless" Denver fan base knows that this is the right move for the team, he isn't the coaching god he was 10 years ago.

His coaching is fine. Shanahan the GM hurt Shanahan the coach.

as chris said perfectly on irc:

he has worn out his welcome in denver, but any other team would be lucky to have him. I wholeheartedly agree and wish the bills had canned juaron because shanny is a guy maybe we could have made a run at.

Geo 12-30-2008 05:58 PM

Wow, that is big.

Don Vito 12-30-2008 05:59 PM

Wow, I can't say I saw this coming. I always had a lot of respect for Shanahan, he will land on his feet.

bigbluedefense 12-30-2008 06:01 PM

i wouldn't mind at all if we replace Killdrive with Shanny.

B-Dawk 12-30-2008 06:02 PM

cant see him stepping down to coordinator

Hines 12-30-2008 06:03 PM

Wow, I did not see this happening at all. Poor Shanny. Come run our offense in Pittsburgh Mike, you know you want too.

Geo 12-30-2008 06:04 PM

Agreed, Shanahan is HC or nothing. He can take a year or two off.

Returning to San Fran might have been great for him, except they're now ready to roll with McCloughan (meh) and Singletary (okay).

I think he would be a perfect fit there, some of their pieces on offense fit his scheme perfectly.

Bill Cowher says hi.

Geo 12-30-2008 06:13 PM

Whereever Shanahan eventually goes next, if he can get a good GM to get him the players he wants (like say Bill Polian does for Tony Dungy), and a good defensive coordinator to handle that side of the ball, he could be really good again.

yourfavestoner 12-30-2008 06:14 PM

Wayne pay whatever you have to pay to get him in Jax. Please.

Splat 12-30-2008 06:14 PM

I can't stand the guy being a Chiefs fan but I do respect him that being said I agree with the move he has just been there to long and it is time for change.

shanahan the coach had his fair share of flaws, lets get that out of the way right off the bat, he was very stubborn in his plans to blitz absolutely nobody

Every Coach has flaws also I just went through 3 seasons of Mangini who had all these imaginative blitzes but at the end it didn't matter because we didn't have great players.

Geo 12-30-2008 06:19 PM

The man who helped deliver the Broncos franchise its first Super Bowl title gets fired and you're making jokes? Callous much?

CC.SD 12-30-2008 06:20 PM
