Schedule just posted. I like it actually. No insane road stints, possible quick start, quality bye week, 3 primetime games ALL at home vs ALL division rivals. Pretty much that stint after the bye week proves if this team is legit or not.

DiG 04-14-2009 08:19 PM

there are definite opportunities to start well but we know from last year that doesn't mean much with a tough finishing schedule. my honest guess is 8-8 again but there are at least 3 definite swing games IMO that could put us anywhere from 6-10 to 10-6.

It's nice we get the Lions so early. Matt Stafford hopefully will be really raw.

WTF is Snyder up to now???

Jim Zorn is preparing for his second season as head coach of the Washington Redskins. According to rumors, the team is preparing to unload him after the season and hire Mike Shanahan.

Profootballtalk.com reported there are rumblings that the former head coach of the Denver Bronocos is in the on-deck circle for owner Daniel Snyder and the franchise. It will be just like the old days, the Redskins battling this Dallas Cowboys — this time for the services of Shanahan.

STAY AWAY!!! SHANNY IS DALLAS' NEXT HC!!!!

skinzzfan25 04-21-2009 08:02 PM

Snyder is planning to assemble COACH-A-TRON constructed of Mike Holmgrem, Bill Cowher, and Shanny.

Day dreaming at work...

Redskins try to get Sanchez and fail;

Redskins trade up for Andre Smith;

Campbell knows the Skins don't want him long term and still wants to be traded;

Redskins draft Lawrence Sidbury with draft pick from Campbell trade;

Sunday afternoon #5 gets behind center at the meadowlands;

The legend begins.

wouldnt mind the skins bringing in Larry Foote to play strongside. He was just released by the Steelers for cap reasons. Not a spring chicken at 28 but not over the hill either and has a lot of production/experience having started 5 straight seasons in Pitt. Not sure how hard the translation from 3-4 to 4-3 would be but from what I know about him hes got the tangibles to play outside in a 4-3.

Heard Colt Brennan on the radio this morning driving to work. He had just finished working out. He's excited about this upcoming season. Was asked about the new incoming QBs and he replied saying he already had a good friendship with Chase Daniels from the award circuits last year. Welcomes the new competition, is looking forward to OTAs. Says it's all apart of the business and that it doesn't worry him at all. He said at this point last year, he was dealing with his post hip surgery, a new playbook and new weight. This year, he's healthy, has a much better grasp on the playbook and is super excited to get out on the field and actually be confident in knowing what he's doing. Last year, he felt he couldn't move as well and played off instincts. This year, he thinks he has a good chance at climbing the depth chart if he can do what he thinks he can do after a year's progress. Says that the weight he carries now is a different kind of weight. Last year he packed on the calories. This year, he's turned the fat into strength.. into good healthy weight. Mentioned specifically that his arm strength has improved and he can really tell a difference in the way the ball comes out of his hand. Says by the time OTAs roll around he'll be 100% ready to go and prove himself.

The local radio interviewer mentioned how in Colt's first year under June Jones, despite making plays and having a good season, that June said Colt didn't even understand the full playbook. Wait till he has a full offseason to learn it. Then in his 2nd year, Colt really took off and had his best season under June. Colt said yeah, I feel like I'm ready to do that in Washington this year and show those guys a thing or two.

Just FYI...

I was thinking the same thing. I always liked Foote up in Pitt.

And D, that picture is priceless haha.

If Colt plays as well as he did last preseason he deserves a shot to start then. Whether it be this year or next but he at least deserves a shot if does it again. I do think he has that "it" factor that would make him a great starting QB but he has to put it all together.

D-Unit 04-30-2009 02:16 PM

Kevin Barnes... lol.

Incoming third-round CB Kevin Barnes called out Fred Smoot for "getting a little bit older" during post-draft interviews.

Sounds like fighting words from the rook'. "They come in like that until they go to three days of (minicamp), and (then) they humble," Smoot responded. "I don't even know his name, and I love football, so that tells you (something). I know who's going to get drafted where. I didn't know the kid."

Wow you took that out of context.

RAK looks good.

Orakpo looks beastly as heck!

How's he looked in Mini Camp so far?

BTW, I'm really looking forward to Week 2 :)

DiG 05-02-2009 10:17 PM

http://realredskins.com/2009/05/mini...uick-hits.html

A few observations from today's Redskins minicamp:

* As most of you know, I'm not much of a Colt Brennan guy but I have to say that I was impressed during seven-on-seven and 11-on-11 drills. He fired a few intermediate passes over the middle with great accuracy and authority and showed good touch on deep passes. I'm not ready to anoint him as a future star or anything but after today I'll be a lot less surprised if it does happen.

* Brian Orakpo worked with the linebackers earlier in the session and with the defensive line later on. In the 11-on-11 he displayed a quick first move and good speed around the edge from a three-point stance. I'm a bit concerned about throwing too much at him with the two positions.

* D. J. Hackett, the former Seahawk and Panther that the Redskins tried to sign as a free agent last year, was in for a non-roster tryout. He looked sharp, although he did have the advantage of having a good base of knowledge of Zorn's offense.

* The best-looking receiver out there was Devin Thomas. He certainly seems to be in excellent shape and he's running sharp routes. It appears that, unlike last year, he "gets it".

* I had a good chat with Zorn with just a couple of other reporters after the main media session had broken up. He walked us through the process of sorting out the tryout players. "First we identify the ones who are going to hurt themselves or hurt someone else. They're gone today," he said, smiling. "We didn't have any of those," he added.

I love hearing good things about Colt and Devin. I have some real high hopes on Devin this season. Hopefully the coaches are right and Orakpo can handle getting reps at both spots so soon.

Also heres an interview with Colt from mini camp:

DiG 05-04-2009 08:24 AM

Sounds like a few early position battles going on already in mini camp. One that I think will be quite interesting is the battle for the final running back/return specialist spot. Rock Cartwright, Dominique Dorsey, Anthony Aldridge, and Marcus Mason will probably see the majority of the preseason snaps as well as split time doing returns. I read some impressive stuff about Dorsey and Aldridge this weekend and obviously Mason and Rock have some experience already so it will be interesting. Aldridge is an interesting prospect out of Houston last year that had a good preseason with Denver but then was put on IR. I think he ran like a 4.36 40 time. Dorsey is out of the CFL. Another speedster who apparently specializes in kick returns more so than at RB.

Another one that I am happy to see is the competition at WR. Obviously Moss is a shoe in, Randle El and Devin Thomas were said to be the two most impressive guys at camp, which should make up our primary three guys but after that there are a handful of players all pushing for a spot on the roster. DJ Hackett, if he can stay healthy, may be the front runner based on his experience with Zorns offense in Seattle. He's said to have looked really good so far in camp. Another guy getting some love from camp is Kelley Washington. Not a guy who has had a lot of success in the NFL but could be a good 5th or 6th option. Rookies Jaison Williams, Tommy Breaux, and Marko Mitchell have also impressed here and there throughout the weekend and the Skins just brought in Trent Shelton, another young ex Seahawk. Also in that mix is James Thrash fighting to keep his spot on the team and Malcolm Kelly still rehabbing his knee. When its all said and done I think the Skins will keep 6 WRs and Im pulling for Moss, Thomas, El, Hackett, Kelly, and Mitchell.

To my surprise, it looks like a few guys fighting for playing time/roster spots on the offensive line as well. Big Mike Williams apparently is really playing hard out there even at 400 lbs...I'm not sure that hell make the roster but if he does, he will have earned it. Rineheart has apparently looked really good so far, and the Skins have also signed Jeremy Bridges who started 28 games in Carolina the last 3 seasons. With Jansen and Heyer also battling for time at RT this should be an interesting one to watch as well through OTAs and preseason.

One other guy who apparently stood out this weekend specifically was Fred Davis, which is great to hear.

2 Live Crew 05-04-2009 09:44 AM

I really hope Fred Davis somehow gets more playing time this year. He's a very good receiving TE and could be a great target in the redzone but for some reason he didn't see the field hardly at all last year.

treyskins 05-04-2009 11:57 AM

This is what Zorn has reportedly said

"HOPEFULLY we're looking for one(?) sure starter out of these guys(the 3 2008 second rounders) and fred will not beat out chris cooley."

If kelly and thomas keep missing time(hence the skins currently signing more wideouts) Zorn will be lucky to have one starter!

Instead of using a second rounder on a t.e. who has no chance of starting our beloved front office passed up on;
W.R. desean Jackson/limas Sweed
D.E./L.B quentin Groves
D.T. jason Jones
R.B. ray Rice
G./C. mike Pollak

Already most of these players have been far more productive for their teams than fred.
What is the betting that they will be even further ahead after this season?

Hindsight. You can say the same if we had taken Portis over Ramsey, if we had taken Anquan or Osi over Taylor Jacobs, etc. Anyways Malcolm Kelly if anything is the pick you should question after we had just taken Devin Thomas and Fred Davis. Also why do you list Djax and Sweed. So you would have wanted us to take 3 WR's???

treyskins 05-04-2009 12:30 PM

Huh,
so you think using a second rounder on a t.e. with no chance of unseating Cooley was worth it?
I'd like our second rounders go towards a player that will start,sooner rather than later.
i.m.o. the davis pick is just as bad as the risky kelly pick.

As was said after the 2008 draft no other team has used its first 3 picks on pass-catchers.
It was a poor year to take wideouts-none were taken until the second round so why not just take one and wait for a better draft for wideouts and use the picks on other areas?
Because, our g.m. wanted lots of toys to make up for not getting chad johnson.
Neglect of the lines(orakpo excepted-luckily).........................
and so it continues.

D-Unit 05-04-2009 01:23 PM

Davis seems to be just another USC receiver gone by the wayside. USC is great for a lot of things, but receivers is not one of them. Though they have a TE there now that looks like he's going to be a beast.
