Preseason Rookie Assessment Thread
I was thinking it'd be interesting to hear what other people noticed about the 'Hawks rookies after watching their first preseason game. I'm not going to just go through all the draft picks, but rather just mention a couple of guys who stood out to me.
Kam Chancellor did what I hoped he'd do, which was to provide some big hits on runners and come up with a ball on defense. The grain of salt to be taken with that is, of course, that it's the preseason. That pass he picked off could've been thrown by an 8th-grader. He had a good game, though.
I liked that anthony McCoy was getting on the field a lot. He looked pretty good blocking, and he caught the touchdown that was thrown to him. Same as Chancellor, it's just preseason, but he had a good game and performed like we'd want him to in the regular season. He didn't drop the ball when it came his way, in other words.
I was a little disappointed with Golden Tate. Part of it was that he just didn't have a lot to work with when the balls got thrown his way. I'd have liked to see him get at least a chance on a long throw... I'm hoping to see him line up in the backfield at some point here in the next few weeks.
