Vinny Curry, DE, Marshall

Anyone see this guy play last night against West Virginia? He was in the backfield all night picking up sacks, tackles for loss, or just generally being disruptive. He finished with 11 tackles and two sacks, plus what must have been at least 3 or 4 tackles for loss. I think he forced two fumbles as well. I'm having some trouble finding the exact statistics, but I was just wondering what you guys thought of him. I know he's a junior, but he's someone that should definitely be on the radar. A little thin, but tall at 6'5" and 242 pounds.

he was playing like a stud, not sure about his upside but he was the best player of the field iyam

Sounds like a good 2nd or 3rd day type DE who could project to play the 3-4 OLB position as a pro. I'm interested to know more.

This guy was a "BEAST" against West Virginia and also had a few sacks against Ohio St. the week before that. He is only a Junior so he has another year to put on some more weight, but he is definitely a sleeper to look out for.

SenorGato 09-13-2010 07:48 AM

He also gets points for being from New Jersey.

Mario Harvey's the man too

He's now listed at 263 lbs and is on pace to match his sack total from last year. I'm keeping my eye on him for the rest of the season.

I've been high on Curry for the most part of this season and have him ranked in my top 32 in my big board. He is the conerfence USA defensive player of the year and IMO one of the best 3-4 OLB in this draft. Tonight is his last game and hopefully puts up a good performance in this bowl game.

TACKLE 12-20-2011 07:25 PM

I find it odd that a lot of people are still view him as a 3-4 OLB. He's like 265-270 and looks like a perfect fit as a 43 DE. Not that he couldn't succeed at the other spot but his skill set definitely seems to fit the 40 front better right now.

ChiFan24 12-20-2011 07:38 PM

Someone explain to me how this guy isn't a top 20 pick.

Bengals78 12-20-2011 07:41 PM

Curry has been growing on me and I am watching the game tonight to see how he does.

Curry's size reminds of the guy in your sig, Terrell Suggs and he could end up playing similarly to him as a OLB and DE depending on the scheme.

Pretty sure he just got destroyed by a double team on that T.Y. Hilton TD.

yah, he got absolutely MURDERED on that play, albeit on a double team.

JBCX 12-20-2011 08:26 PM

He looks really slow.

TimmG6376 12-20-2011 08:32 PM

FIU's heaviest OL is listed at 281 lbs. I was wondering why Curry looked freaking huge for 270-ish lbs

ChiFan24 12-20-2011 09:28 PM

I wish Marshall wasn't allowed to play offense and FIU wasn't allowed to play defense. Couldn't care less about any of those players.

he's not that fast or big for an end, but his motor and pass rush moves seem to lend very well to the NFL and he has excellent size for a 3-4 OLB.

ChiFan24 12-20-2011 10:36 PM

IDK....actually seemed to lack some of the explosion I remembered him having. Maybe it's the added weight.

ElectricEye 12-20-2011 10:40 PM

Clearly wasn't his best night. FIU ran a lot of quick passes, but they also did a very good job blocking him out.

3-4 OLB + slow = :(

ellsy82 12-21-2011 01:35 PM

I'd like to see what his KEI is after the combine. If he runs a sub 4.75 at the combine and shows some explosive tendencies, I'd like to pick him up on day two.

BTW, I had Florida International picked as a bowl pick and that "little" bastard is a primary reason why I'm starting out 0-4.

I think he's a 4.75 guy. Similar to Brandon Graham and LaMarr Woodley. Not really slow but not a freaky athlete.

I think the numbers at the combine indicate both Graham and Woodley were freakish athletes. Further proven by their play at the pro level.

Unless you're talking about fast 40 times...then yeah, very run of the mill type outcomes.

Edit: I personally think he's more of a 4.68 kinda guy. A little faster and quicker than Woodley and Graham.

Hope this means late-2nd round grade!
