Preseason Stats are extra meaningless

Still, check out these stats...

Last preseason, for the entire 4 games, the Bucs had 4 sacks to finish last in the league.

This preseason they are 1 sack out of 1st place with 13... not bad.

George Johnson leads the league in sacks with 3.0. I know they have come against 2nd and 3rd stringers, but he should make the team over Kyle Moore. Dakoda Watson is #5 in sacks with 2.5.

For the entire preseason slate, the Bucs are #3 in ypg defensively.

Here's where to be scared. Bucs are giving up 4.0 yards per rush.,.. nice... but last preseason the Bucs gave up 3.8 yards per rush.

Whatever, it's preseason. It's nice that some players shine, but some times, the game plans and preparation aren't as much during preseason towards opponents.

Meaning, maybe Freeman is too busy breaking down film of in season opponents rather than putting time in studying for the Redskins next week or Dolphins in previous weeks.

Johnson is strictly a pass rusher. I like his get-off but Moore is only in his 3rd year and has made major strides. He can be a starting LDE, but Johnson will always just be a poor man's Bennett.

Where have you been the last 3 preseasons? Moore has had excellent camps and dominate preseasons that make you think he'll; shine.

Then comes regular season and he's no where to be found.

Then tell me what Johnson's done.

Sacks seem like they're up for a bunch of teams. Personally, I'm leaning towards the inflated numbers being a product of the lockout. Oline needs that time to work out protection much more than the Dline needs it to work on stunts/games/etc.

Not that your D isn't improved; and clearly being atop the league in many categories is something that bears notice. But I'm not convinced that Houston will stick at the top of the defensive ranks any more than I am that Tampa and Washington will hold on to the 3 & 4 spots.

Moore will never get consistent pressure against starting RTs but he can be a serviceable end. Johnson looks 1-dimensional. Clayborn & Crowder>Bennett & Bowers imo so Moore is more likely to contribute.

Johnson logged numerous snaps agaisnt the Pats as a DT and did very well. he played the run extremely well against the Redskins and their starters. I know he's not one dimensional, but I'm not completely convinced he's really a great pass rusher. What he does have, however, is versatility and that's what got him on the roster.

These stats aren't meaningless, 30 rushing yards for Falcons, 2.0 yards per attempt... Michael Turner, 20 yards on 11 carries... 4 sacks. The DL is looking sooooo much better than last season.

Don't crown 'em yet...the ATL OLine is woeful. The way we shut down Turner was a huge positive and gives me hope for our run D. We schemed perfectly and hit him in the backfield every play. Not sure about the sacks yet...I'd like to see us repeat that success before I say our pass rush is above-average.
