I forgot about Bo Jackson. That would be a good pick. I also like Marshall Faulk.

I can't diss any of the great RBs of yesteryear, nearly all would be still be stars in today's game. Payton, Brown, Earl Campbell, Barry Sanders, OJ, etc.
But Eric Dickerson needs more love!!! Damn he was beast.

Eric Dickerson was the best right away so I'd go with him too.

When I saw the title of this thread I immediately thought about Dickerson, but Bo Jackson was an animal. I would actually also take Adrian Peterson.

I can't believe I'm the first person to mention the greatest RB in NFL history, Jim Brown.

Jim Brown then Bo Jackson second.

Gale Sayers was pretty impressive in the highlights I've seen. He would be high on my list.

Off the top, I think Dickerson/Barry Sanders/Tony Dorsett are best oldskool RBs who had great rookie seasons.

Most of these great RBs weren't 'great' as rookies.

Gale Sayers rookie year was probably his best.

Perhaps I should have been more clear. I meant having one of the greatest halfbacks of all time as a rookie to grow on your team for years to come. If you had Barry Sanders you'd want him as a rookie for your team right?

People forget what a monster Edgerrin James was as a rookie.

I think I could build an offensive monster with Dickerson, Riggins, Payton or Barry Sanders in my team's backfield.

Don't forget about O.J. Simpson. He was murderously good.

earl campbell, jamal lewis, marshawn lynch, fred taylor, clinton portis, marcus allen, cadillac williams and eddie george were beast rookies too...thinking outside the box a bit

Bo Jackson, as long as he doesn't play pro baseball. Bo focused on football in a 16 game season would just be unreal.
