Report: Jets teammates vote against Tebow

Quote:

Coach Rex Ryan has stuck with Mark Sanchez as his starting quarterback, despite the New York Jets' team's 3-6 record, saying that Sanchez gives his team the best chance to win.

According to a report, there apparently is no argument from his locker room, with more than 12 players believing Tim Tebow is not very good. Both offensive and defensive players, who remained anonymous, told the New York Daily News that they hadn't noticed improvement in Tebow's quarterback skills since he joined the Jets from the Broncos this past March.
Quote:

"He's terrible," a defensive starter told the Daily News.

Quote:

Left guard Matt Slauson, who has repeatedly supported Sanchez, made it clear that the fourth-year signal caller is the Jets’ best quarterback.

“It’s not even close,” Slauson said. “All the other quarterbacks know it. I have all the confidence in Mark. We don’t really have a choice.”

When asked about the team’s two other quarterbacks on the depth chart as possible alternatives — Tebow and Greg McElroy — Slauson clarified that the Jets really have only one other quarterback.

“We have Greg . . . and we have an athlete,” Slauson said.
Quote:

But could the Jets win with Tebow as the No. 1 quarterback? “Do I have to answer that question?” a veteran starter said, shaking his head.
Quote:

To most of the people in the organization, Tebow is nothing more than a specialty player who doesn’t have the requisite skills to be a true quarterback in the league. “We don’t look at him as a quarterback,” another starter said. “He’s the Wildcat guy.”
Quote:

"Hell, no!” another starter said. “You got to keep defenses honest. You just can’t line up in the Wildcat all the time. That won’t work.”
Quote:

But most members of the Jets don’t believe that what they saw from Tebow last season is sustainable. “We can’t win running that sh--,” one player said.
Quote:

"Now we’re depending on miracles?” a member of the organization said. “You can’t play that way.”
Quote:

So, who wants Tebow to be the starter? “Nobody,” a member of the team said.

After the way he raped the Jets last year, none of those players have any right to talk **** about Tebow. It's their own fault he's on their team.

bucfan12 11-14-2012 09:24 AM

This is why the jets are a circus. They let things like this get out to the media which causes even more drama. It's pathetic.

tjsunstein 11-14-2012 09:33 AM

Why say these things to reporters? This team needs to be gutted.

AntoinCD 11-14-2012 09:34 AM

Rex Ryan and Mike Tannenbaum need to take 100% of the blame here. Firstly, Ryan has brought this culture of false bravado with all his claims of Superbowls etc and the players have followed suit. When they say something stupid they aren't held in check by management.

In regards to the Tebow situation, they traded for a former starting QB and had a current starting QB who has struggled throughou his career and if anything is regressing. Of course there will be calls to start Tebow, especially giving the fact that it is in the biggest market in sports.

Rex Ryan has stubbornly stood by Sanchez all season and has not indicated that will change. However he really has no choice now that so many players have came ou and said this. There would be a real chance of losing the locker room if he did so.

And finally, the Jets have done just a horrendous job of accumulating talent the last few years, especially on offense. How is any QB supposed to have success with those players?

I find the Jets entertaining. I love how WFAN rips them when they lose. The whole one QB in, one QB out OR both in cycle is very funny. Its one big giant mess! I hope they they extend Rex Ryan for more years.

abaddon41_80 11-14-2012 09:51 AM

I don't understand what they have against Tebow. Would they rather have a QB who completes around 50% of his passes with tons of turnovers or a QB that completes around 50% of his passes with a good TD/INT ratio that can also run the ball?

I got news for whomever said that in the Jets' locker room...... you ain't winnin' runnin' the sh-- you runnin' NOW!

I am sold that Tebow isn't starting right now because Rex doesn't like Tebow's feet. Gotta be bunions.

Da-Phins 11-14-2012 10:33 AM

Surprised they didnt say the same thing about Sanchez.

vidae 11-14-2012 10:34 AM

The Jets gon Jet.

tjsunstein 11-14-2012 10:43 AM

Id say get rid of the guy responsible for bringing Tebow to this circus but you cant really fire the owner. This organization has turned into a joke. Headline after headline, yet they cant figure out the problems on the field? Makes me think they (upper management) care about nothing more than the money and attention. Its come to the point where I feel bad for Sanchez. Jeremy Kerley is what hes working with right now.

Clean house.

The only democracy in the NFL. How's that working out.

Really took the whole election year to heart. The day your players are making personnel decisions is the day youve lost any control. Ryan cant control who he puts on the field under center without worrying about the Tebow quota, players are following Ryans lead in unaccountability with the media, and yet no ones job has been threatened or called out aside for Sanchez's. This is all ass backwards.

LonghornsLegend 11-14-2012 10:58 AM

Now while I agree with what they are saying obviously, what has Tebow done to deserve any of this? It's not like he creates the whole media circus himself and promotes himself to no avail. Seems like there is a certain respect that your teammates should be giving you, and for a guy who does everything right, works hard, shows up early, says all the right things, I don't see why he deserves to be blasted by teammates anonomously and for no real reason.

I don't even like Tebow, but how can you not see this as a **** move? Tebow isn't the first person to suck at a certain position, but he hardly deserves to be called out like that in the media.

Agreed. At least Slauson had the nuts to put his name to his quotes.

Four more years! Four more years!

jrdrylie 11-14-2012 11:15 AM

While I agree Tim Tebow is an awful QB, they really need to put him in there as a starter. Sanchez is 30th in the league in rating (only ahead of Weeden and Cassel), last in the league in completion percentage (at one point had four consecutive games completing under 47%), and is 29th in the league in yards per attempt.

Tebow is a horrible passer, but his numbers as a starter last year are pretty much what Sanchez is putting up right now. He has the ability to spark the running game. One of the guys says they need to keep the defense honest? How does Sanchez's inability to pass keep defenses honest?

Thecollegedropout 11-14-2012 11:23 AM

I've been saying for 2 years that no QB can succeed with the garbage we have right now, just Sanchez isn't good enough to have respectable numbers as opposed to a gifted few. Sanchez becomes a very easy scapegoat for everyone to use since he's a pretty boy SoCal QB and everyone acts like its solely on him that the team is garbage when he's been a problem but not THE problem. It is delusion at its finest. We have had mediocre drafts, awful decisions on player personnel decision making and the team has zero depth when they lose some key players. There's nothing Tebow or Sanchez can do at this point and really at this point putting Tebow in there is like a hail mary, yeah you may find succeed but its a real long shot.

I don't know if the players are trashing Tebow so much as they are backing up Sanchez because the guy really comes off as someone who is diligent, works hard, pays for his own "Jets West" training camp for some of his players to attend to, never causes any trouble and most importantly which I think ALL of his players love him for is he never points the finger at anyone but himself.

Now this does not mean Sanchez can play the way he has, its unacceptable. However, His O-Line has clearly failed him at times, his weapons even with the diva Holmes have done nothing to help him, mediocre RB situation and poor playcalling means that Sanchez has to be Superman and picture perfect to make this work and of course he's not. What I see out of Sanchez is someone whose lost his confidence because of this silly Tebow move that includes the in/out between the two, mainly after a decent play by Sanchez and someone who is trying way too hard like Sanchez to make a play. The fumble caused by Sherman was because of Sanchez trying to dump the ball off rather than take the sack even though Sherman got untouched against him in 3 seconds. I hold nothing against Slauson here, he's an O-Line for Sanchez and the O-Line/QB are always close.....Slauson is backing up his guy and is putting his name on it too.

I even feel sorry for Tebow even if I think he's a great puppeteer and can find ways to not have any blood on his hands while getting what he wants. I think its quite brilliant how he can manipulate the media without actually being caught doing so. No player deserves to be mistreated like this though and I do think there will be more Jet fans who will side with Tebow and be sympathetic, which can only help the "Tebow to Jets starting gig" IMHO so I don't even think Tebow minds this, he knows the media will eat this up and more and more fans will be rooting for him.

Shame on the owner and shame on the GM, as it was the owner who brought in Tebow alone IMHO and the GM for. Rex should take blame for hiring Sparano though who has somehow find a way to have as less of a feel of the game as Schotty did but I do still feel he can be a good HC in the league. Our GM is terrible and HAS TO go though after this year and well our owner....I'll be praying he can get a clue. :( He might be one of the worst owners in professional sports.

As a Pats fan, I really hope your organization feels the same way about Sanchez as you do. Please, continue to keep that garbage in at QB and find new excuses year in and year out as to why he is sucking.

Really? So it's not completely obvious enough from the quotes which one they are doing here? Come on man...

I am in the minority, most Jet fans point their finger at him. However, he will continue to be garbage when we continue to neglect such important positions like RT and RB on the offense so at this point I really feel Sanchez needs to get off this team and latch onto somewhere else where the coaching staff has belief in him and where he can get a fresh, new start. A divorce is inevitable.

All I can pray is we get a difference maker at GM who can have some hell of a draft in 2013 where we can get some (decent/good) starters out of this. Sanchez is staying in 2013 due to contract, it may be his final go of things period as a Jet.

I don't agree with the way they are handling this by saying he's garbage etc. as I feel no player deserve that type of abuse by their same team but I think the players are sick of being asked by the NY Media if they want Sanchez benched or who they want starting at QB and I feel much of the players joined together to stand by one answer. Must happen after every game, or maybe even after every practice. They know if a majority of the team backs Sanchez that the organization may be inclined to stick with what the team wants knowing that a backlash could and very well may happen.

Its more of the NY Media trying to badger this and get some headlines, which to their credit the Jets players are giving them. The NY Media are a bunch of snakes who always find a way to poison the well and create the mischief that they desire.
