Gerald Hodges, LB, Penn State

I'm really high on this kid. 6'2" 235ish. Very instinctive, physical. A good athlete. Good against the run and in coverage.

I think he can be a good 3 down NFL LB. I've seen a lot of people and sites don't even have him as a 2nd round pick.

Thoughts?

Overall he looks like a good player who sort of straddles the line between "careful" and "disciplined" in his play, in that I don't see him running himself out of plays or missing tackles trying to deliver a big blow. He breaks down to make tackles in the open field, although I do think he lets some runners get away from him. He seems strong at the point of attack, in that blockers tend not to get a lot of push on him, but I also see him get locked up and if a blocker has his hands on him he can get pushed off of or out of tackling opportunities. But overall, the comparison that actually comes to mind, probably because I've seen a lot of him, is Bobby Wagner. Hodges is a really fluid, smooth athlete. Kinda lean, but not small. I'd be comfortable with a second or third if I was looking for a linebacker. Seems like a player a coach would see as a potential starter early in his career.

Could he fit in a 3-4?

He's a lot like Navarro Bowman

I definitely think so outside of a thumper role.
