Top 300 Small School Prospects and Combine Snubs

Here are the lists. I try not to read around most draft websites so I'm not sure where most players are rated. Anyone missing from the top 50 that shocks you?

I'm interested in seeing Rontez Miles at the combine.

Also, I honestly think Derrick Washington can make an NFL roster. I think had he not gotten arrested and finished his entire career with Missouri he would of been a 4th-5th rounder. He isn't fast (guessing high 4.5-low 4.6) but he has really solid hands and is a patient runner.

I think he will do well.

It would shock me to see Washington drafted unless he blazes a fast 40 and his background comes out clean. You have to remember he is older and has baggage. Had he never left Missouri then I have no doubt he probably would have been a mid round pick.

Can you sell me on Hughes over Williams as the first interior DL on your list? I'd also expect David Bass to be a little bit higher.

There is a reason Lamar Mady was invited to the Combine; he is a very, very talented player. He is going to get drafted and deserves to be ranked a lot higher.

Montori showed more at the Senior bowl. Specifically, the ability to produce pass rush.

Both are really very close. Williams, like Hughes played against inferior opponents. Both did very well. There isn't a lot of separation between them from our amateur vantage point.

I think it comes down to expected versatility and forecast roles in the NFL. For me, I think it'll just come down to who develops better after they are drafted. We can't account for that. Would not be shocked if either guy went first -- but would expect both of them to go 1-2 on the small school list for DTs.

I could see Terron Armstead going on day two - certainly compares favourably to Lamar Holmes who the Falcons took in the third round last year. Figure Armstead should test out well at the Combine - that size, flexibility and athletic ability has huge upside. Got to get those hands inside though.

I'm very high on Keith Pough - surprised his week at the Shrine Game hasn't push him higher up - unless the reports I read of his highly impressive week were off base. Assume the week one suspension isn't viewed as a big deal?

I like Maysonet, but can see why he's rated late day three due to his lack of size - but he's been fun to watch.

On the other side of things, don't see much with Ty Powell. Will do a bit more work as all their games are free on the Harding website, but I came away disappointed.

Hughes started out in the SEC, bigger, played a higher level of competition, and when he plays hard you can argue there is nobody better at NT in this draft. Those are the reasons why I project him to be drafted ahead of Williams. Either way, you can see I have them both rated high.

Bass did not even have the best season among DL on his own team. He's more of a projection than what he is now. He is still very raw, has games where he goes silent, and some argue he was the 3rd best player on his team. With that said, he's the best athlete on his team and has a high ceiling. I was expecting a little more production out of him this year to be honest. Had he done what I expected I would have him in the 3rd round right now.

Mady is a good player who looks the part and has great movement skills but he was very raw on film and when you look at the MVFC he was not even 1st team All-MVFC as a senior. Not saying you have to be because I believe Randy Richard should have been 1st team but Mady was not among the top 5 OL I saw in the MVFC in 2012. There is potential though for sure.

As for combine invite there are over 100 players who go that don't get drafted and many past combine invites don't even make it. This may be a surprise but I can name two small schoolers in the last 4 years who were invited to the combine and did not even get a contract.

Armstead is very raw and his LOC is not very good. I have him projected to go higher than I have his current grade at right now to be honest. He needs to get stronger, fill out the frame, and needs coaching. Anything higher than the 6th round is more of a projection pick than a pick of where he is at the moment. The 40 has nothing to do with being a good OL but because he runs a 4.8 I do think some teams will draw him up the board. I think he can be good but needs a couple of years to develop and going in the top 100 pretty much means he needs to get on the field early.

Pough did well but just one week at an all-star game does not make or break stock for me. I loved him during his career but wanted to see him do more in coverage and I was going to wait to really push him up until I see how he tests at the combine. I'm not sure he goes higher than the 6th round yet, although I'm leaning towards a final 4th-5th round projection as long as he looks good in pass coverage drills and puts up good numbers.

Maysonet's lack of size? He's almost 205 pounds. Height does not matter when it comes to RBs. The top backs, outside of AP, are in the 5'9-5'11 range.

Powell got better as the season went on. He was not consistent but there were times when he took over games. The big thing about Powell is that he is a very good special teams player and a freak athlete. He can do a lot of things and in the NFL the more you can do the more valuable you are.

No idea how Nick Moody got invited to the Combine but not Vincent Williams.

Thought I would bump this thread up.

It will be interesting to see how my pre-combine ratings compare to the rankings here after the combine and then again after the pro days.

Mike Catapano is posting #s of 4.65 on 40...7.07 on 3 cone...4.19 shuttle...36 in vertical...120 in broad jump....over 30 reps on bench. With 4 weeks to improve until March 20th Princeton Pro Day. All these #s are TOP level numbers (compare them to what the other DEs do at the Combine). Here is a video posted today by his trainer at Parisi Speed School Rich Sadiv of Catapano doing almost 32 reps on bench with 225.

John Boyette, Oregon injured safety, getting a combine invite over Cooper Taylor of Richmond is probably the most ridiculous thing I've ever seen.

Boyett was very productive from 2009-2011 and had he been able to play this season, he could be one of the top ten safeties in the draft...Taylor was great during Shrine week but he's no more than a late round, developmental player for whomever selects him

Good numbers. If he does that at his pro day and has a good round of visits with teams he should get drafted for sure.

What round does his family, agent, and trainer expect?
