3rd Best OG in Class?

This draft has clear cut top OGs in Warmack and Cooper, but who is the 3rd best OG in this draft?

Larry Warford
DJ Fluker
Kyle Long
Justin Pugh

Who can step in day 1 and start?

BallerT1215 04-04-2013 09:39 AM

I think Fluker would be a solid RT in the NFL so therefore Larry Warford is #3 for me.

Black Bolt 04-04-2013 09:45 AM

It's a toss up between Warford and Long and they couldn't be more different. I just love Long as a LG prospect. I'm drooling thinking about a left side with Veldheer and Long.

Nastradamus 04-04-2013 09:53 AM

Easily Pugh. Fluker is a RT. Pugh is head and shoulders above the others and might even be a LT.

DeepThreat 04-04-2013 09:58 AM

If you're counting Fluker as a guard, it is easily him. Otherwise, it's easily Larry Warford.

If it was only that easy.

princefielder28 04-04-2013 10:23 AM

Pugh is a tackle in my opinion. Same for Fluker.

Warford and Long are a tight battle for that spot, and Ohio's Eric Herman flies under the radar but I feel he's worth a mention as a potential Top 5 guard in this class.

JohnCandy 04-04-2013 11:52 AM

Would anyone be shocked if Warford, Pugh or Long snuck into the late 1st?

bitonti 04-04-2013 11:54 AM

I have Pugh and then Brian Winters as next best guard. I don't think Warford has the balance or footwork to be a top 100.

K Train 04-04-2013 11:58 AM

It wouldnt surprise me to see Fluker be a top 5 guard

I expect Pugh to be a first round selection. I think we see a run on tackles similar to 2008, when eight went in the first round.

We'll have Joeckel, Fisher, Johnson, Warmack and Cooper as locks for linemen going in the first. Fluker and Watson seem to be close to locks for the first as well. Pugh and Long are not locks by any means, but I think it's realistic to mock both of them in round one.

This. I also count Pugh as a RT. If he were a guard, it would be close. But I think either way it's gotta be Warford.

TACKLE 04-04-2013 12:31 PM

Well if we're counting Fluker as a guard, the answer is Jonathan Cooper.

Matthew Jones 04-04-2013 01:12 PM

Justin Pugh is probably the safest, most pro-ready prospect, but Larry Warford has considerable upside. Prospects like Fluker and Long may be a little bit too tall for my tastes.

touche (10 char)

also, im not sure id call what warford has "upside"

regoob2 04-04-2013 01:16 PM

If Warmack and Cooper are 1 and 2 them it's Fluker by a mile for me.

Bobo 04-04-2013 03:13 PM

Haven't watched Fluker (has he played G?), but for me the safest #3 is Warford. He's what I guess you call a traditional G, real strength in the middle. If a team values athleticism more, maybe it's Long. Long looked really good to me at G at the SR Bowl. I wasn't as impressed with Pugh at G or Winters, but both may need more time to get a feel for the position.

Black Bolt 04-04-2013 04:00 PM

Could you guys please stop calling Fluker a OG?

I agree with this. I see a player in the mold of Phil Loadholt with worse feet and less movement skills.

I feel like we're the only ones that see it that way sometimes. Not a fan of Flukers AT ALL.

I'm just getting peppered with Fluker and Mathieu acolytes. I see these guys and just hope that San Fransisco picks them.

You don't think he can play OG?

Big_Pete 04-04-2013 06:17 PM

This really all depends on what teams look for in a guard

Depending on what flavour you want.

You could make a case for each of these imho

Larry Warford, DJ Fluker, Kyle Long, Justin Pugh or Barrett Jones

Iamcanadian 04-04-2013 06:18 PM

Fluker could well be moved inside to OG if his feet prove to be a liability at RT.

bigbenn 04-04-2013 06:49 PM

Not only do I think Hugh Thornton is a top 3 OG, but he is also as good or better than any OG or OL prospect in the draft IMO. I think he will surprise as a 1st rounder or early 2nd rounder at worst.

I like Thornton a lot too. I don't think he'll go in the first, early second or mid second, but the highest I can see him going is late second. Where I think he'll surprise is how good he is in the NFL. I think he's a stud.

I also think Alvin Bailey is gonna be a real stud for a man power scheme. Not gonna be drafted as the 3rd OG off the board, but he can start from Day 1 and have a long successful NFL career imo. I like Thornton, but I LOVE Bailey.

I'm way down on Warford. Might be my 8th or 9th best OG. I think he'll be drafted high, but I try to rank my guys based off I how successful I think they'll be in the NFL. Not where they will be drafted.
