4k/1k Quarterback

Eagles Michael Vick
Redskins Robert Griffin
Panthers Cam Newton
49ers Colin Kaepernick

Which Quarterback this year has the best chance to be the first
Quarterback to pass for 4,000 yards and rush for 1,000 yards.

OSUGiants17 04-14-2013 10:28 PM

Vick is old and won't play the full season so no

RG3 is going to be recovering from a leg injury and I have a feeling he runs a lot less this year

Cam is an interesting option, but I don't see him getting 1000 rushing yards

Kaepernick is my pick, I think he runs it often enough and gets big runs and passing for 4,000 isn't that ridiculous for a starting QB anymore

Ness 04-14-2013 10:43 PM

First off, who in the world would want their quarterback running that often. They would be exposed to more brutality than desired.

Second, Colin Kaepernick would be a poor choice even if one did want to consider who was the best candidate for the endeavor. Greg Roman's offense isn't that pass heavy as it's a run first offense. I don't expect the 49ers to be constantly playing from behind either.

mightytitan9 04-14-2013 10:44 PM

This is highly unlikely to happen. But Cam and Kaepernick have to be the top 2 on everybodys list.

Cam has thrown for over 4000 yds once before and 3800 last year, while running for 700+ both years. The problem is he'd have to get 7-8 yards per carry because I just can't see him getting enough touches to get 1000 when he's staying around the 5.6-5.8 he has thus far in his career.

Kaepernick on the other hand averaged 240 yards passing in his starts (including playoffs), and averaged 50 yards rushing a game in his starts. With that said, I could see them throwing more this season with the addition of Boldin and with the loss of Alex Smith they may be more worried about Kaepernick getting injured

Rosebud 04-14-2013 10:46 PM

Kaep won't throw the ball enough to get to 4K yards, nor do I expect him to have to carry the ball enough times to hit 1k. Cam probably can't hit 1k on the ground either, but he'll have the ball in his hand enough to get the passing yards and if all goes to hell may hit the rushing mark as well.

I vote E) None of the Above

we all know what you really meant.

Kaepernick could do it if their defense falls off and he continues to get better.

Agreed. Terrelle Pryor is most likely to be the QB to hit that mark. Probably in 2014 though.

Mufasa 04-15-2013 01:09 AM

Newton is the one that could get closest, but it's not going to happen. ONly once has a quarterback rushed for 1,000 yards. Matching that and throwing for 4,000 isn't happening anytime soon.

In 10 starts in what was his first year, he average just over 240 yards passing a game. He only needs to average 250 a game over 16 games to hit 4000 which is really quite reasonable in today's NFL as he continues to improve as a passer.

Just for fun, if we pro-rate his last 10 starts over 16 games it comes out to. I'm not a fan of pro-rating in general but 10 of 16 games gives us a pretty good sample size, especially when 3 of those games were in the playoffs.

3850 passing
828 rushing

49erNation85 04-15-2013 01:17 AM

Where's the Tebow option. he'll start over all QB in NY

BallerT1215 04-15-2013 01:19 AM

Newton is the only one that realistically would have a shot.

I didn't realize fans catching the ball 20 rows deep counted as official passing yards.

FUNBUNCHER 04-15-2013 02:15 AM

Cam or CK. I don't think RG3 will ever again get the carries he needs to approach that mark.

BallerT1215 04-15-2013 02:46 AM

I can't stand his attitude on the field, but Cam is really the only one who has the body to withstand a 1000 yd rushing season while also having the arm to pass for 4k.

I feel disgusted touting him, but it is true.

WCH 04-15-2013 03:10 AM

You can't play all of your games against the Packers.

Tebow with 4k rushing and 1k passing.

bucfan12 04-15-2013 04:24 AM

RG III Won't. He'll get hurt again in during that process if he doesn't change his style of play.

Neither of these QBs will rush for 1000 yards.

Kaepernick hasn't toasted any other D with his legs?

scottyboy 04-15-2013 12:05 PM

It's clearly Eli. Have you seen those open field moves?

Cigaro 04-15-2013 12:16 PM

I don't know why people are saying Cam is the most likely option. Theoretically he certainly has the tools to do it, but Chud was the big read-option guy, and he's gone. Not only is he gone, but even while he was here it got phased out due to ineffectiveness. This upcoming year expect to see Cam noticeably more. He's athletic and obviously knows it, so he'll always put up decent rushing yardage, but he won't get near enough touches to near 1000 yards.

Yeah, but his rushing yardage is heavily skewed by his 181 yard performance against Green Bay; a performance he is not likely to repeat. In his other nine starts he averaged only 35.7 ypg. He'd have to nearly double his rushing output or put up another one or two record games to even have a chance at 1,000 yards.

Because he is.
