Oregon admits to major violations in football

Quote:

Documents released by the University of Oregon show the school and the NCAA agree "major" violations were committed by the football program, both The Oregonian and Portland, Ore., television station KATU reported Monday.....

"There were underlying major violations coupled with failure to monitor violations involving the head coach (2009 through 2011) and the athletics department (2008-2011)," NCAA enforcement staff wrote in the report, according to KATU.

Chip Kelly had to have known this was coming.

Pete Carroll 2.0?

However, the documents also state NCAA enforcement staff said they had "no finding of lack of institutional control and no finding of unethical conduct," key points when it comes time for punishment to be considered, KATU reported. Oregon is expected to appear before the NCAA's committee on infractions sometime this year.
Per KATU via ESPN. If that's true they might be spared the heavy hit that USC got. Either way the NCAA needs to drop the hammer on the coaches responsible. Whether it's fines or a suspension for the next team they coach they need to curb the actions of coaching rather than having the universities.

Chip Kelly is certainly Pete Carroll 2.0 though. He knew the hit was coming and got out before the floor fell out.

Oh Chipster - no wonder you flip flopped around before deciding to ultimately go to the NFL.

There have been reports over the years that Pete wanted to stay but ultimately it was Mike Garrett that pushed him to the NFL. Pete wanted to retire at SC. I don't know if I believe it or not...just what I've read.

Chip, it looks pretty obvious with how he backed out and then jumped in at the last second before they hired Bradley.

Because anyone believes an idiot like Mike Garrett could force out Pete Carroll.

It wasn't a force out...it was more of a "I think you should go, this is gonna be brutal" than...."get the **** out of here, you're fired and you're not welcome."

Mega weak. I wanted much more. Even a minor post season ban. Mostly because I hate Oregon fans though.

SickwithIt1010 06-26-2013 03:01 PM

This is ****** bull ****.

Trogdor 06-26-2013 03:27 PM

Grease the palms and it'll work. Stick your tongue out at the NCAA and they'll punch you in the teeth. Oh and don't be a small school.

When Katz reported that the investigators didn't find "a lack of institutional control and no finding of unethical conduct" this was the obvious result.

MassNole 06-26-2013 03:34 PM

Is Nike an official NCAA sponsor?

ND just took the commitment of bonner, so effectively ND just self imposed a bigger penalty

It is honestly probably just easier to cheat when the consequences are so minor.

You nailed the violations issue months ago. Of course no one could predict the slap on the wrist.

Borat 06-27-2013 07:43 PM

So damn funny.
