UDFA's Your Team Picked Up

is there someone who stands a realistic chance of making the team? Who and why? For the Raiders, I am looking at the following players:

WR Conner Vernon

You all may know about him. He is the ACC all time leading receiver from Duke. Slow as a snail, this guy simply gets open, and thus includes some deep routes. He is a Biletnikoff clone right down to the long hair. He has a chance to make the team because he will make plays throughout practice. Also, we don't have this sort of consistent underneath threat on the team currently.

OG Lamar Mady & OG/C Deveric Gallington

I expect at least one of these two big bulls to make it. Tony Sporano won out with his 2nd round choice, Menelik Watson. He is the assistant HC and holds a lot of power in the coaching staff and of course we know he prefers the power running game. Well, these two guys are both low to the ground and weigh 315 pounds. Also, we need better O-line depth.

LS Adam Steiner

We have the highest paid LS in history.

15 UDFAs are in the hall of fame. That's 2 more than #1 overall picks, 7 more than Heisman trophy winners.

Anyway, Perez Ashford WR from NIU and Chris Faulk OT from LSU if he gets healthy could be steals.

Jacksonville Jaguars:

Will Almost Definitely Make The Team
Lonnie Pryor, FB, Florida State University
After allowing Florida State fullback Greg Jones to depart in free agency after a long career with the Jaguars, the cupboard is almost entirely bare for the Jags at the fullback position. Enter Lonnie Pryor, another FSU fullback, and a guy many people expected to be drafted. Who else better to step into Greg Jones' shoes?

Matt Scott, QB, Arizona State
Although the Jaguars did not draft a quarterback this year, they did bring in Matt Scott, a guy some analysts claimed had "one of the highest upsides of all the quarterbacks in the class". Scott, while talented, is extremely raw, so he will likely not provide a stiff immediate challenge for Blaine Gabbert's job this season. However, he will likely make the roster, possibly resulting in Chad Henne's departure from the team. He will definitely make the practice squad if he does not make the final roster, though another team may claim him in that situation.

Good Chance Of Making The Team
Ryan Otten, TE, Arizona State University
Otten was one of the higher rated tight ends in the class, as some people predicted he would be drafted from the third to fifth rounds. He is an H-Back type, and would add a dimension to the Jaguars offense it currently does not have. The Jaguars are very thin at tight end after Marcedes Lewis.

Abry Jones, DT/DE, Georgia
Jones played the 5-technique in Georgia's 3-4 defense. While the Jaguars technically play the 4-3, new head coach Gus Bradley is implementing a modified version of the scheme with 3-4 elements that Seattle fans are familiar with. Jones would be able to play a role in the new defense, the only question is whether he is talented enough to make the jump.

I don't know, these guys might work out/Practice Squad Prospects
T.J. Barnes, DT, Georgia Tech
Kyler Reed, TE, Nebraska
Jordan Rodgers, QB, Vanderbilt
Carson Tinker, LS, Alabama

I don't understand why Otten was not drafted.

It's a damn shame that a guy with this sort of talent could go undrafted because of toolish behavior. If he stays out of the newspaper, he's a steal.

Pat Sims 90 05-01-2013 05:32 PM

Good Chance of Making the Team.

CB Onterio McCalebb Auburn
The Bengals are switching him to CB because they are pretty much set at RB. McCalebb has a good chance as sticking on as a PR or KR since the Bengals don't have a dynamic returner.

LB Jordan Campbell/Jayson DiManche/Bruce Taylor
One of these should have a pretty good chance of making the team because the Bengals don't have much depth at the LB position.

K Quinn Sharp Oklahoma State
Nugent has had trouble staying healthy and consistency. Sharp should at least challenge Nugent for the starting Job.

Lonnie Pryor is awesome, i played against him once. ****** beast

TJ Barnes is like 6-7 370, hes big enough to play on his knees

ph90702 05-01-2013 06:45 PM

I'm not a Vikings fan, but Bradley Randle stands a good chance of making the Minnesota Vikings in my opinion. He's only about 5'7" and 190 lbs., but he plays much bigger. He plays special teams, runs between the tackles, pass protects, and catches passes out of the backfield.

Dallas actually might have a couple stick this year.

Brandon Magee, LB, Arizona State probably have the best chance. Reportedly Dallas wanted to trade back into the 7th to ensure they got his rights. Instead he went undrafted and they paid him better than any 7th rounder. Dallas needs linebackers for the new 4-3 scheme and Magee is an athletic match.

Kendial Lawrence, RB, Missouri has a good shot as he'll be competing with last year UDFA's Phillip Tanner and Lance Dunbar for the #3 slot. IMHO Dunbar is ahead of Tanner by a ways and Lawrence does everything better than Dunbar so this should be a borderline lock.

BJ Stewart, TE, Cumberland will be on the team if he shows well in blocking. His emergence would allow Garrett to jettison the Vickers for cap relief as well as add another TE to his arsenal of tools.

Jakar Hamilton, FS, SC State is probably the last of the "good chance" UDFAs we have. If Hamilton shows well on either ST or at S in camp/preseason he will make the team off potential replacing the zero ceiling Danny McCray.

S Robert Lester, Alabama
Maybe I am biased as a Crimson Tide fan, but I absolutely LOVE the fact that we got Lester as a UDFA. If he can work out some inconsistencies, he could start this year. That says a lot about our secondary, though.

CB/S Melvin White, Louisiana-Lafayette
Could be a valuable contributor to our secondary. And I have heard a few Richard Sherman comparisons, which I think is pretty good.

WR Trey Diller, Sam Houston State
A lot of potential. I would love for him to slowly rise up our depth chart. Really fast guy and decently sized.

DE Wes Horton, USC
Needs a lot of technique work, but could be a great rotational guy in the future.

START?? Wow. On what team?

SickwithIt1010 05-01-2013 08:28 PM

Jake Knott is going to be a steal I feel like in Philly. Was an absolute monster of a football player until he got hurt. He will be a big time player on special teams at the very least.

I think Maysonet has some potential, but its hard to see him getting a ton of PT with Shady and Brown getting a bulk of the carries.

Brad Wing is a very good punter, but he just won't be punting for us this year.

Russell Sheppard...Idk why we signed him.

Don Vito 05-01-2013 08:38 PM

I like some of the Patriots pickups. Moe, Vellano, and Stankiewitch have shots to make the team. A couple of the other guys might too but I don't know too much about the rest of them.

I can see Moe producing in your offense down the line.

Denver Broncos

Quincy McDuffie Slot WR and Returner out of UCF

Quincy McDuffie, WR, UCF
McDuffie was a return specialist at UCF, finishing his career as the school’s all-time in kickoff returns (90), kickoff return yards (2,501) and kickoff return touchdowns (six). He was a Sports Illustrated first-team All-American as a kick returner.

Wasn't Jeff Samardzija slow too? Yes I know he plays baseball and only played football in college. But I remember watching him play saying he'll be a solid NFL player.

Cigaro 05-01-2013 08:51 PM

Robert Lester? Probably can find a depth spot given our safety crop. After that, I'd be lying if I said I knew anything about the other guys outside Damario Jeffery, who probably will get squeezed out because of existing linebacker depth but has a chance due to size/speed, although supposedly Lineberry is supposed to be challenging for our kicking duty. I've heard people talking about Colby Cameron taking Clausen's roster spot, I think that's probably just optimistic thinking.

??? These guys are NOTHING alike. I think Samardzija had nice pro potential, but he was a vertical WR with very good leaping ability. Vernon is a Biletnikoff/Largent type that is a gifted route runner with vice grip hands.

LOL, is that Kiper's top five Clausen?

mightytitan9 05-01-2013 09:17 PM

There's two guys I think could make the Titans, but it's going to be an uphill battle and they'll likely end up on the practice squad.

The first player is Matt Sewell, he's a 6'7" 337 OT from Canada. Pretty good athletically, pretty good football for a guy his size etc. Anyways, we've got 3 guys at OT that are on the bubble. Mike Otto has been with the team for several years, and can backup at both tackle spots and Guard. He's a valuable depth player, but he is making $1.7m this season, which is high for a backup. Stingily has potential and Baldridge is likely just a camp body.

Stafon Charles DT Regina. I had forgotten all about this guy until we signed him. He played alongside Akiem Hicks at Regina and popped out on film while I was scouting Hicks last season. He's got great size at 6'5 310+. We have tons of bodies at DT, but his size, and the fact that he has played some DE for Regina too could be valuable. He'll likely start out on the practice squad

Loftin 05-01-2013 11:46 PM

Houston Texans

Johnny Adams, CB, Michigan State

Probably the best overall talent on Houston's UDFA haul. He's fast and athletic. The Texans could use some depth in the secondary, so he'll get his chance.

Ray Graham, RB, Pitt/Dennis Johnson, RB, Arkansas/George Winn, RB, Cincinnati/Cierre Wood, RB, Notre Dame

Arian Foster will start. Ben Tate will back him up. After that, we've got nothing. At least one of these guys will make the team. After the success of Foster (himself an UDFA for the Texans), I don't blame Houston for this approach of not drafting a RB, but picking up a few for camp and seeing if one or two pan out.

TACKLE 05-02-2013 12:12 AM

None of our UDFA's look to stand a very good chance at making the 53 but I'm hoping we can 'redshirt' this guy a year. Never played football before in college but is a 6'7 240lb freak who averaged 15/10 in the SEC. Can't help but be excited about him. That'd be awesome if he developed into a legit TE.

I really hope we can keep him around for a bit. I think Pitta will get paid and Dickson will get let go when contract time rolls around so it would be nice to have another TE soon.
