BCS or Bust for Notre Dame in 2013?

Per ESPN

Quote:

If Notre Dame does not qualify for a BCS bowl and each of the 10 FBS conferences fills its respective bowl openings, the Fighting Irish could be left without a bowl.
It won't be an issue in 2014 as Notre Dame is eligible to go to ACC bowl games, but if somehow teams fill their spots in 2013 and Notre Dame doesn't go to a BCS game, they could very well be screwed.

How weird would it be for a 9-3 Notre Dame team to now go to a bowl game?

jrdrylie 05-21-2013 04:10 PM

I doubt all 10 fill their openings. The SEC has 9 tie ins, plus likely two in the BCS. They only had 9 elligible teams last year. I doubt they get 11 this year. Now I could see the higher tier bowls getting filled up and Notre Dame being offered a crap bowl. Would a 9-3 Notre Dame team accept an invitation to play against UCF in the BBVA Compass Bowl at the state-of-the-art Legions Field in beautiful Birmingham, Alabama?

It is doubtful the ACC fills it's allotment as well, but if I understood the article correctly Notre Dame isn't eligible to be picked until all other options have been used for conference affiliation.

Reasonably if Notre Dame wins 10 games they go to the BCS.

10 wins may be difficult....

The Malik Zaire Era is upon us.

Some outlets are saying that it was a residence life violation while others are saying that it Golson cheated on his final exams.

If it's for cheating on exams, this sucks. Other schools probably actively assist their star players cheat.

Yes, I'm sure Vince Young nailed his three years of school at Texas.

Shreckart 05-26-2013 12:15 AM

Well TCU never released anything official, buuuut the time that Devonte Fields was suspended was right around the time players get in trouble for academics , and that's supposedly what I've heard to be the reasoning for him, so maybe it's the same thing here and it became more serious?

Jcn92 05-26-2013 01:00 AM

Apparently it's for cheating and apparently that makes him inelegible to receive a scholarship anywhere this coming year. I bet he goes to Juco and then has two years of eligibility to play DI like Cam Newton did.

its been a rough 2013 thus far for ND. Maybe to counterweight 2012 or something

BallerT1215 05-26-2013 06:04 AM

Reese just told Kelly "How do you like me now?"

to illustrate, after the end of the regular season ND has lost a total of 5 different 5star prospects, lost 2 guys to career ending injuries (both of whom wouldve been on the twodeep) and lost the starting QB.

Not to mention the Bama debacle and the Manti embarrassment.

He was at Texas 4 years actually as he took a RS.

Andre Johnson of Miami would be your best example for a player cheating and facing no consequences,

Have you heard of North Carolina at Chapel Hill???

If Gunner Kiel would just stay put he'd have jobs falling right in his lap.

NC didn't help them cheat. If they did they wouldn't get caught. If LSU did it Mathieu would have played his entire career at LSU.

Why would they want him back, are they that desperate for a mediocre QB?

Notre Dame is better off without him.

I never really understood why he was so highly rated myself.
