2013 SEC Thread

didn't see one and needed a place to put this

that's UF center Patric Young who has been working out as a TE at camp and could actually see real game time on kick-blocks and endzone fades

Jcn92 08-03-2013 10:41 AM

Wow I hadn't heard that at all, that's interesting. TE is clearly an area on offense where they got a ton of their receiving production from last year and now they don't have a solid experience TE. They've got two guys who converted from DE and Thomposn and Taylor. Im interested to see how Colin Thompson and Kent Taylor will do in camp since they were both highly touted TE recruits coming out of HS.

The main reason I find it interesting though is that Young is doing this in his final season playing basketball. He's always been a talented basketball player and could have left before and been a mid to late first round pick in my opinion. Most college seniors who are legitimate NBA draft prospects would be really worried about there draft stock, I guess Young is not.

most Gator people on theother forum I go to expect Clay Burton to be the starter

Johnny Football is under NCAA investigation. Well that didn't take long.

Really not surprised. The NCAA Bylaw that gets a lot of kids is Bylaw 16 which says that an NCAA athlete shall not receive any extra benefit, so it's pretty much saying you can't get anything that you wouldn't get if you weren't an NCAA student athlete. His entire offseason and Instagram account appear to be showing him receiving extra benefits because of his status as a student athlete. I get that he is affluent, but you can't tell me that being on stage with Wale rapping had nothing to do with the fact that he was Johnny Manziel. The same for being in a music video and meeting all the celebrities he's posted photos with on Instagram.

I was checking out schedules this year and stumbled onto what must be the most difficult schedule ever assembled...Tennessee...6 top 25 games, 5 of them against top 10 teams. It includes back-to-back games at Oregon and at Florida in September, and a 3-game stretch in October with home games against Georgia and South Carolina, and at Alabama. (Their bye is between Georgia and South Carolina). I know a lot can play out over the course of a season, but at first glance this is as brutal of a schedule as I have ever seen.

For a team that just lost their biggest playmakers on offense, this will be a rough year for Tenn.

Don Vito 08-05-2013 07:53 AM

Vince Sanders broke his collarbone being slammed to the ground in a helmets only practice. He is our starting receiver opposite Moncrief and will miss 6-8 weeks. So stupid.

6-6 would be a miracle. Funny how badly Lane Kiffin has destroyed two storied programs yet still maintains employment above that of a HS Position coach.

Wouldn't that mean he counts for a football scholarship?

Certainly if he plays, not sure the rules if he simply practices.

I can forgive a lot of things that players on my favorite teams do. Banging a 14-year old is not one of them.

Cigaro 08-05-2013 10:12 PM

Didn't know about the 14-year-old issue, all I knew was he was the one with the complete sucker punch on a guy in a parking lot. There are definitely things that a player could do where I wouldn't honestly care if they were punished or not (or at least not much), but that's not one of them.

Apparently he put it up to a team vote. What the **** kind of coaching is that?

yeah they do. if you don't think millions of freshman girls don't blow seniors then you're delusional.

saintsfan912 08-06-2013 08:07 AM

I'm glad you guys went to Redemptorist high school and know exactly what happened in the case. Crap like this happens all the time. Star player has consentual sexual contact with someone younger, girls dad finds out and gets pissy. Files charges. Screws someone's life up. My girlfriend when I was a junior in HS, was a freshman. We dated while I was in college. Big deal. He was a 17 year old KID.

Most of the people complaining about that bar fight don't know that the guy that got beat also harassed him all night in the bar about said high school discretion. Those people also probably don't mind when their teams players get busted for DUIs or get arrested for theft.

Sucker punching someone in the head is a dirty thing to do. I don't care what someone says to you. There's a kid in Utah in big trouble because he slugged a ref who then fell into a coma and died.

Yeah, it's a complete ***** and scumbag move to pull. But it's cool, he plays for LSU, you practically have to murder someone there before the university will even acknowledge it.
