2013 Raiders Season/Pillow Biting Thread

If only we had an offensive line, we might see more of this...

RaiderNation 08-20-2013 04:18 PM

Our oline will be atrocious this year without Veldheer, the defense looks somewhat better especially at LB. Still no pass rush at all which hopefully will be solved for the #Clown4Clowney type of season we will have. At least it's a strong class and we should be able to add a top talent to our team somewhere in the top 5.

Would you really pass up on a chance to draft a franchise QB for a DE?

If that player is a freak of nature/once a generation type talent, yes. We have been in a similar situation fairly recently. We could have taken Calvin Johnson not too long ago, but we took the franchise QB. That still haunts me. Unless the QB is a Manning/Luck type elite QB prospect, I'll take the elite DE. Non-elite QB prospects come out almost every year. When will we see another talent like Clowney?

There is a whole season of college ball to go though, and a lot can change in that time. I think we'll all be paying extra close attention to these two.

Raiderz4Life 08-23-2013 09:37 PM

Clowney > Bridgewater imo.

Just saw the DJ Hayden clip on espn....man I hope that dude turns into a stud.

RaiderNation 08-24-2013 12:58 PM

So I hope there isn't any disgreeing that Terrelle Pryor should be the starter after last night. He gives the offense a chance behind this oline and we still haven't seen what he and DMC together will do together in the pistol, which I think could be very exciting. No, he isn't the next Kaepernick/RG3 but he is the best option for us at QB at the moment and he's young. Give the kid a chance this season and gear up for hopefully will be a good draft for us.

And yes I believe taking the BPA is the best way to go with our current squad. Passing on Clowney will be a huge mistake especially with how our pass rush has been this past decade(other than Burgess). Bridgewater is a very good talent and I also like The Hundley kid for UCLA too.

nobodyinparticular 08-24-2013 03:11 PM

With Veldheer out, it makes even more sense to put Pryor in at QB because of what you can do with a moving pocket and on bootlegs.

nobodyinparticular 08-26-2013 12:29 AM

Well, Pryor is starting the last game of the preseason.

RaiderNation 08-26-2013 01:13 AM

He'll be the starter week 1, he's out performed Flynn and on paper it makes too much sense to not have him in their. Also Menelik Watson is getting reps at LT which should be something to watch against Seattle. It'd be awesome to see him step up to the plate and eventually have him and Veldheer be really good OT's.

Abaddon 08-26-2013 05:08 AM

Watson's going to get fitted with clown shoes early on. I just hope he's mentally tough enough to endure those beatings and learn from them.

I'm still baffled that anyone thought Russell was going to pan out. Absolutely baffled.

Raiderz4Life 08-26-2013 08:54 AM

Can't believe Terrelle ******* Pryor might be our starting QB....sad sad day.

Same here, he had bust written all over him while CJ was a friggin stud. Classic ******* Al.

I know I sound like a know-it-all douche when I laugh at people who were in favor of drafting Russell, but come on. His lack of work ethic was documented. This was not a closely guarded secret. How the hell do you look at a QB prospect and decide a poor work ethic isn't a big deal, or is coachable?

If you're gonna get fooled, get fooled like me. I ignored Rolando McClain's pedestrian athletic ability because my dumb ass trusted that this guy was a film junkie, a natural leader, and a stout tackle to tackle run defender. I even argued against my own logic (You don't draft a LB that high who doesn't sack QBs). Stupid!

It's a crapshoot. Every year, the draft is a mystery. Every year we convince ourselves that we have a good feel for who's going to be good, and every year, we're wrong on far more players than we were right about. We don't even pay that **** any attention, though. We're too busy being right about the next draft class.

Damn, we dumb.

/impromptu rant

Raiderz4Life 09-01-2013 12:15 AM

A little surprised Andre Carter got cut. Was hoping he'd give us some production considering our DE situation

2 punters? Really? I like King over Kluwe.

I'm also really sad to see Tyler Wilson struggling. I was so high on the guy for like 2 years and wanted him to be our 1st pick at one point. I'll still keep a bit of hope.

Stash 09-01-2013 01:14 AM

As for the punter, I hope we go with King. Kluwe isn't bad, but he's nothing special. He's a pretty average punter. We're going to stink this year regardless of who we have punting, might as well give the young guy with the big leg a shot and see if he can be consistent enough to be worth keeping around in the future.

Abaddon 09-01-2013 01:55 AM

I want to keep Kluwe just because I know so many people online who despise him. That fact alone makes him indispensable to me.

Raiderz4Life 09-01-2013 04:34 PM

Wilson got cut :'(

So did Kluwe

RaiderNation 09-02-2013 03:05 PM

All signs are pointing to Pryor starting week 1, he took the 1st team snaps today. Also why isn't Wilson added to the practice squad? I hvent seen him gt picked up yet...

RaiderNation 09-03-2013 01:11 PM

A little premature thinking here, but this is my top 10 by board heading into the regular season...

1 Teddy Bridgewater QB Louisville
2 Jadaveon Clowney DE South Carolina
3 Marqise Lee WR USC
4 Chase Hundley QB UCLA
5 Sammy Watkins WR Clemson
6 Jake Matthews OT Texas A&M
7 Anthony Barr DE/OLB UCLA
8 Stephon Tuitt DE/DT Notre Dame
9 Tahj Boyd QB Clemson
10 Aaron Lynch DE USF

nobodyinparticular 09-03-2013 03:07 PM

I think the saddest thing about the Raiders right now is that after 2 years of rebuilding and a decade of absolute futility (never outside the top 10), they probably have more holes now than they did last year or the year before.

Moving forward, the Raiders need a QB, a couple pass rushers, help in the secondary, help all over the offensive line and likely a dynamic WR or two to go along with a RB.

Raiderz4Life 09-03-2013 04:05 PM

McKenzie has really stripped the team big time. Wonder if he'll gey enough time to start rebuilding it.

And it was probably a necessary thing to strip the team. The problem was the false hope of the 8-8 season. In reality, the Raiders should have stripped the entire team last offseason and run the whole year with a hundred million in dead space last year. Instead, it was a case of "both/and" which just led to more problems this year.

It doesn't help that the Raiders have been draft pick poor the past few years and have been largely unsuccessful in drafting the past 10 years.

RaiderNation 09-03-2013 04:14 PM

I think McKenzie gets another draft at least, I'd be more worried about Dennis Allen getting the boot if our record doesn't improve at all from last year.

We still have some NFL starting caliber players on the roster and they know if they can show promise they will try paid this off season since we are set to going into the off season with over $60M in cap space. Veldheer should get paid, Wiz, DMC and Houston all have a good chance to get extensions too.

Raiderz4Life 09-03-2013 06:53 PM

DMC will need a big season to stay imo. Has not given us our money's worth even though last season wasn't completely his fault.
