Rookie Watch 13-14
Might as well get this bad boy out, especially since the Jets have some actual rookies that matter!

New York Jets:

CB Dee Milliner: Pretty lousy day though to his credit he was big in quarter 4 and when Freeman continued to go after him, Milliner kept answering every time with a knockdown. He still isn't fluid with turning his head around and I fear he will get called on some pass interferences in the future if he doesn't. Its like the Kyle Wilson syndrome. Like with most CBs, there's a 1-2 year growing pain season as corners try and catch up to the speed of the NFL and I think Milliner will be no different. He has the skills, just needs to refine himself. He was behind the 8 ball already with the 3-4 day holdout to start training camp and being hurt and unable to get in the 3rd and 4th preseason game.

Not a great day but he at least showed some flashes. Mike Williams got the better of him though.

DE Sheldon Richardson: Really nice game. Big part of Doug Martin getting stuffed and he got the better of his matchup on the right side. After his hiccup of an offsides in quarter 1, he was just on a mission along with Wilkerson and Harrison into being a stout front 3 that made Freeman's life a living hell and Martin's life a living hell. Really impressed with the motor and his skill off the snap. Should be a big contributor from the get go.

QB Geno Smith: Played a smart and good game. No eye popping stats but he didn't make any dumb throw or force anything. He used his feet as a weapon which was a nice surprise and adds something to the mix for this team. He had a bad overthrow on a checkdown that was one of his few mistakes. The Jets O-Line did him no favors most of the time, and his running game was so bad that Geno was the leading rusher on the team today. He has the tools to make this work in the league. Really impressed and proud with the game he had today. There will be growing pains no doubt but he just has so much more working for him than what Sanchez does. He made the plays when needed and played a great, crisp game in quarter 4 when we needed him to step up. Love it.

G Brian Winters: Don't think he took a single snap....he might be needed if Vlad Duccasse plans to have the meh day he has as the new LG. Also Colon is injury prone so Winters might have a fair chance to play somewhere down the line this year.

G/T Oday Aboushi: Inactive and thank god. Awful in preseason.

G Will Campbell: Inactive and thank god. Just as bad in preseason as Aboushi.

FB Tommy Bohanon: Our starting FB. Had a great 20+ yard reception courtesy of a great Geno pass but he looked lost on some blocking plays designed for him and he led to Geno getting a sack, maybe two. He's gotta fix this up....this is his job on the team and his purpose here. He's very strong, just a matter of seasoning and learning. Needs to step it up here though.

WR Ryan Spadola: He appeared in the game after Kerley got hurt but didn't get thrown at. Hope he gets incorporated some more moving forward, I think he could be a decent surprise.

OLB Bjoern Werner - Definitely struggling with the adjustment to 3-4 OLB. Tentative and having to think instead of playing. One of his best attributes in college was his burst off the snap but he isn't able to use that right now.

No one else from this class is really getting any playing time. Hopefully that changes soon and 3rd rounder Hugh Thornton takes over at RG for the terrible Mike McGlynn.

Bulldogs 09-09-2013 03:54 PM

Robert Alford and Desmond Trufant both looked great against New Orleans I thought. Trufant had a couple nice knockdowns and wasn't afraid to come up and hit. Alford had a nice pick on a slightly poor throw from Brees and read a wheel route perfectly and knocked that ball down as well.

Didn't get to watch much of the Bears game on Sunday. But since seeing that Jay Cutler wasn't sacked, especialyl against a very good defensive line, makes me think that Long and Mills played pretty well.

Grizzlegom 09-09-2013 04:26 PM

Dion Jordan got a sack, but he also had a facemask called on him during said sack.

Sturgis his all of his FG attempts. Not sure any of the other Dolphins rookies even played and if they did, I didn't notice them.

SuperPacker 09-09-2013 04:44 PM

Datone Jones - Limited amount of action, because we played a lot of Pickett-Raji-Jolly in order to try and stop the 49ers run offense and it might be the same next week against Washington. When he was in he didn't generate much pass rush, but hopefully we'll see him some more against a less elite offensive line.

Eddie Lacy - Looks good when he gets space, but our run blocking was unsurprisingly poor and he didn't have much to work with.

David Bakhtiari - Played relatively well considering who he was playing against. The difference between Bulaga and Bakhtiari doesn't seem to be big at all.

Micah Hyde - Solid and didn't make any stupid mistakes, which is more than can be said about our other defensive backs (safties inparticular). Wouldn't be surprised to see him starting back there sooner rather than later.

Johnathan Franklin - Don't think he got a snap. Somehow outplayed by James Starks and we'll hand it off to Randall Cobb as the change of pace back. Looked poor in training camp.

BallerT1215 09-09-2013 04:47 PM

Kenbrell Thompkins (sp?) looked dreadful yesterday for the Pats.

Gio Bernard looked pretty good in limited touches.

Robert Woods burnt the CB for his 1st NFL TD, and burnt him again later in the game but was underthrown by EJ.

The Dynasty 09-09-2013 04:59 PM

Xavier Rhodes - Performed well yesterday considering he went up against Calvin Johnson for most of the game. He held Calvin Johnson to only 4 receptions and 37 yards.

Sharrif Floyd - He seemed non-existent. He recorded no tackles and I can't even remember him being talked about. It was a tough day for the D-Line except for JA69.

Cordarrelle Patterson - He was used very minimal but made a nice gain after a bubble screen.

Jeff Locke - He looked like he had some first game jitters because he was kicking pretty poorly.

Love Xavier - but I'm sure he wasn't by himself in holding Calvin to 37 yds.

EJ Manuel looked pretty alright. Much like his lone preseason start, it was a lot of short stuff, some designed throws to the running backs, went to Chandler as a safety valve a few times. But just before the half he pulled out two perfect throws for a score. Came out and led another no-huddle scoring drive right after the half. Fred Jackson carried that drive but he once again showed a sudden killer instinct in the red zone and had perfect touch on the Stevie TD to cap it.

Long ball was definitely off for him and we had to be better on third down, but not a bad outing at all. Made things too difficult for his receivers on short outside throws. Had one really nice run, did not get sacked on the day.

Robert Woods got wiiiide open for his touchdown. Did not notice him much besides that.

Kiko Alonso was up and down. Had some trouble in zone coverage. Best series came late in the 3rd quarter -Stuffed a 3rd down play at the goalline then recovered a fumbled snap on the 4th down play.

Marquise Goodwin fumbled his only catch, broke his hand. Woof.

Don Jones our 7th round pick played great on special teams.

Jamar Taylor and Will Davis are out with injury. Hopefully will be back for next week. Dion Sims was in the game a bit, mainly for blocking. Dallas Thomas, Jelani Jenkins, and Mike Gillislee were all inactive.

Eric Fisher had a solid game got beat late in the game for a sack but all in all solid

Mike Catapano had 0.5 a sack yesterday beating Luke Joeckel to get that hal a sack

Jcn92 09-09-2013 06:11 PM

Kenbrell Thompkins - Was clearly not on the same page as Brady for much of the game and struggled throughout the game.
Zach Sudfeld - Had one pass thrown two him which bounced off of his hands and was intercepted, also did not do a very good job blocking.
Jamie Collins - Saw two snaps, did not record a stat.
Joe Vellano - UDFA saw good amount of playing time as reserve defensive lineman, totaled two total tackles.

Travis Frederick... With the same OL around him that Dallas had last year, there was a significant difference in the protection Romo had. Murray also had nice cut back lanes to go through. Pro Bowl not out of the question.

Terrence Williams... Needs to learn to catch with his hands. Nice all around effort.

BW Webb... stepped in when Claiborne got hurt. Eli chose to repeatedly target Scandrick instead, so I guess Webb was doing alright.

WR - Quinton Patton - Played 4 snaps at WR. Wasn't involved. He should have every opportunity to jump Marlon Moore on the depth chart and maybe challenge Kyle Williams (especially if they continue to only dress 4 WRs.)

TE - Vance McDonald - Saw action on 20 snaps (4 more than WR3.) Caught 1 pass for 25 yards. Had 1 drop on a low pass. Didn't stand out for anything bad in the blocking game.

OLB - Corey Lemonier - Only saw action on special teams. Aldon Smith played all 62 defensive snaps and Ahmad Brooks 59.

ILB - Nick Moody - Didn't notice him. If he played at all it was only on special teams.

FS - Eric Reid - Started at FS and played all 62 defensive snaps. His only glaring negative was a missed tackle. He made up for it by making a fingertip interception 2 plays later. He also had another interception called back on a free-play deep throw by Rodgers. Reid was highly visible as he showed tremendous speed to the ball and made several big hits.

All I know is, TJ McDonald was knocking people out, the dude is going to become a feared Safety. You can bet on that.

mightytitan9 09-10-2013 08:52 PM

Might as well just put Chance Warmack in the hall of fame already

ElectricEye 09-10-2013 09:08 PM

Kembrell Thompkins:
Looked every bit of an UDFA, played very poorly and actually hurt the team at times. Dropped a touchdown pass, ran wrong routes, and bumped into Edelaman on a crucual goal line play taking both of them out. Did generate separation, but also struggled with corners getting physical on him at times. We're counting on him to be a large part of our offense, so hopefully he's able to turn the page.

Zach Sudfeld:
Targetted once and had the pass intercepted on a deflection. Throw was on target, he just tripped and made the catch harder on himself. Pushed around in the running game.

Michael Buchannon:
Played 11 snaps. Didn't stand out, but he got push on Glenn once that opened up a hole for Chandler Jones to pressure EJ from the inside. Looks like he may play on passing situations and allow Jones to play the Justin Tuck role.

Joe Vellano:
Stood out against the run on a few occasions. High motor player. Looks to have the makings of an effective rotational guy.

Aaron Dobson:
Spent the day chilling out with Chad Jackson and Taylor Price.

Josh Boyce:
Targetted twice, dropped a screen pass.

Jamie Collins:
Didn't even notice him get on the field, apparently registered two snaps at one point.

Not a great week for the draft class. I still have high hopes for a lot of these guys, but we're counting on huge contributions from a lot of these guys on offense. Looks like it may just be too much to ask in too short a time frame for some of them.

VernonLawson89 09-13-2013 05:51 PM

Some Eric Reid gifs VS The Pack

SuperMcGee 09-29-2013 05:06 PM

Kiko Alonso has four interceptions on the year and a takeaway in every game so far. His diving effort to seal the game today was off a tip, but he reads short-medium routes very well and puts himself in great position. He is awesome.

Robert Woods is seeing a lot of targets from Manuel. Had a nice deep touchdown today, almost recreated it on an underthrown ball later in the game. Also had a questionable second touchdown overturned, but he is growing in this offense.

SchizophrenicBatman 09-29-2013 06:14 PM

Star Lotulelei is what we thought he was. A fantastic run defender. The current status of the NFL limits his potential somewhat but he hasn't been completely useless in the pass rush either despite limited action.

Kawann Short has also been very good at performing his specialty - pressure up the middle.

Rest of the picks haven't seen any action. Barner is hurt I think. Some UDFA DBs had to play last week (and did pretty well) because Ron Rivera is an idiot.

keylime_5 09-29-2013 07:07 PM

Barkevious Mingo is pretty darn good so far. 3 games, 3 sacks. Super fast and quick. Looks like a great pick.
