Thoughts from a CBSsports refugee

DraftCountdown is my new home, now that CBSsports.com dropped their NFL forum. There was no warning -- it just disappeared this last offseason. Those of us who were regular posters on there didn't even get a chance to say goodbye to each other. That board always had an entertaining mix of smart fans and morons. Anyway, on to the happenings of the 2013 season so far.

It looked like the 49ers were in for a freefall. Than they righted the ship against the Rams. In the post game analysis, ESPN's Antonio Pierce (the former Giants linebacker) acted like the Niners weren't going to lose a game for the next ten years. SF is still a good team, but Pierce overreacted to one blowout win against a below average team.

Alex Henery is not only missing field goals for the Eagles, but he also gave up a touchdown on a kickoff return to Broncos KPR Trindon Holliday. The game was in the thin air of Denver, meaning the kickoff should be a touchback every time. Decent former Dolphins kicker Dan Carpenter is still on the street, if Chip Kelly decides to cut Henery.

Buccaneers head coach Greg Schiano recently said he is tired of people complaining about having his defense hard rushing or blitzing a kneel down. This will continue to be an issue, since the TB defense will see plenty of victory formations in the future -- either before halftime because their opponent has a big lead and doesn't need to gamble, or at the end of a game because the Bucs lost again.

Patriot haters beware. They are 4-0, and Rob Gronkowski hasn't even played yet. Their game against Denver in Week 12 could easily be between undefeated teams.

I need to see more from quarterbacks Brian Hoyer (CLV) and Matt Kassel (MNN) before I put them in the next five Pro Bowls, like the knee-jerk reactors want to do.

The Steelers and Giants are a combined 0-8, the Chiefs are 4-0, and the Saints are playing good defense. In MLB, the Pirates are in the playoffs and the Yankees aren't. Things are happening in sports that are stranger than UFOs and bigfoot.

The NFC East is now the crap division that will produce an 8-8 (or even 7-9) division winner -- probably the Cowboys.

That's all for now -- see you on the other threads.

Dan Carpenter is a Buffalo Bill

Nobody is claiming Hoyer or Cassel are making five Pro Bowls. Nobody is even saying they are anything more than stop-gap QBs.

They must have been saying it at CBSsports.com, where all sorts of exciting things go down.

I thought Dustin Hopkins was back from injury. When he is, Carpenter will be cut again.
