Default If handed out today, the Heisman should go to LSU's Patrick Peterson

Shut down corner. 2 INTs, 1 TD. 253 return yards on punt returns and 2 TDs and another 190 yards on kick returns through 4 games and a huge contributor in the wins against West Virginia and North Carolina.

Not sure what else can be asked of a defensive back.

that would be great if it went to the best CB every year.

While Denard Robinson's achievements are very impressive, I have a hard time saying he should win the Heisman without playing a single relevant football game so far when put up against what Patrick Peterson has done.

Patrick Peterson is a great player and I would love to have him on the Lions next year. But I highly doubt he would win the Heisman. The only primary defensive player to do that was Charles Woodson. When Woodson was at Michigan he did it all. Offense, Defense, and Special Teams. So unless Peterson starts playing offense I don't think he will win it. Besides, the football gods have already spoken.:-D

What is so relevant about LSU's opponents? Their ridiculously impressive .500 record? LSU struggled to beat a North Carolina team that missing almost every defensive starter. They also struggled to beat an extremely overrated West Virginia team who almost lost to Marshall.

Ohio State played one school that is worse than most of the top FCS schools and the other three schools have a combined 4-7 record with three of those wins coming against Ohio, Florida A&M, and Wofford.

Maybe you guys should argue who the best player in the country is, instead of who should win the Heisman? The Heisman is a joke. The best player is the best player, regardless of who his team schedules.

Rawr. Defensive UM fans are cute. Denard has a chance if UM goes over .500 in the Big11 this year. That's gonna tough for RichRod to handle.

Also, the Heisman is a joke.

Is he on Woodson's level? Woodson was the only defensive player to win the award and I don't think Peterson is having the same impact. If they wouldn't give it to Suh I don't see them giving it to Peterson. Is Peterson shutting down elite QBs and WRs? Who is the best WR he has covered?

Nope, that was not sarcasm. The odds that that pic could be taken at that precise angle and pose are astronomical, Im sure. Im not saying its a premonition buts itd be cool if he won it.

I'm probably a bit biased in not wanting Peterson to win the Heisman, but I really don't think he should. Peterson is a fantastic corner, but he doesn't dominate the way that Charles Woodson dominated. What Woodson did that year was special. I don't think we're going to see a comparable performance from a defensive back in a long, long time. Ndamukong Suh had a season last year that was on par with what Woodson did in 1997, and he finished 4th.

I mean he isn't the most conditioned player as I saw in the UNC game.. and second year man Jheranie Boyd had 6 receptions for a ridiculous 221 yards. Joshua Adams the big man also late in the game was playing physical with Peterson and took advantage of him. Don't get me wrong, he is probably a top 10 pick for sure but he has his flaws (very little). He is dynamic in the return game as well but LSU could still put up 8 wins without him. Andrew Luck means everything to Stanford as does a dark horse in LaMichael James.

If not for Peterson, your UNC Tar Heels win that game. The Mountaineers would have also beaten LSU if not for Peterson. That's 2 of their 4 games.

If Denard wasn't playing out of mind this year, I'd vote for Peterson.

Few things of interest for me:

Anyone have the thrown at stats for Woodson and Peterson?

Comparing Suh's 4th last year lends no comparison to Peterson this year based on quality of class. Robinson's worst game will most likely be vs tOSU which will take him out of contention. Mallett will fall out. Pryor could do something going undefeated and have a great michigan game, although we all know how bad michigan's defense is. That leaves Moore, Ingram, and Luck basically infront of him. If Luck loses to Oregon and someone else he would be out. No one cares about Moore. And Ingram has some catching up to do.

The thing that will separate Peterson and Woodson is that Michigan went 12-0 that year, Woodson made the most amazing interception ever, and had an amazing last game vs tOSU. LSU will likely not go undefeated, and early year interceptions/returns quickly get forgotten. His only chance would be if LSU made it to the SEC championship game and he gave some kind of highlight performance

Holy assumptions, Batman!

PP will do what Suh didn't: win the Heisman.

Heisman voting is stupid. Who should have won it last year? Yes Ingram was good but Suh just took over the Big12 Championship game and if we would have won they would have given it to him. PP is good but most likely Luck will win.

You think Stanford goes to the NC?

If it is OSU/Bama, I think Pryor wins. If Boise goes, Moore is a contender too.
