Packers-49ers, Preseason Week 2
I couldn't see last weeks game so I'm very excited for tonight. First time I get to see the Packers play another team in 7 months. It's probably been played up quite a bit by the media, but Smith vs Rodgers should be interesting.

That was a nice throw by Rodgers, I can't believe Driver dropped that.

Bad drop by Lee in the endzone.
I loved the reverse punt return to Bigby.

is it the oline or rodgers or why is he on the ground so often?
Feels like he holds on to the ball too often

The first one was mainly due to a great defensive play call. I wouldn't really place the blame on an offensive player for that one. One of them was on the WRs. Two were Aaron holding the ball too long. Those two were some fault of the line, but Rodgers should have at least thrown it away.

Rodgers needs to work on his footwork, specifically drops, and he needs to get rid of the ball quicker; he's taking too many hits.

He's the 6th CB at best and the funny thing is when he's cut someone will think he's useful

I still think he has a chance to make the roster. He shouldn't touch the field on defense, but he's a valuable special teamer. He's certainly on the bubble though. It all depends on how we're doing with depth everywhere else if we can afford to keep a player who will be soley a special teams guy.
And wow nice return there

Could someone give me a quick rundown of the major happenings of the game. Most notably the play of Rodgers, the RB's and the secondary. Didn't get to see the game. Thanks in advance.

Very sloppy game. Too many dropped balls by the offense, Rodgers held on to the ball too long at times, offensive line didn't look too good.
Special teams looked good up until the allowed punt return. Jordy did a great job returning kicks.
Brohm has been very unimpressive this preseason. At this point I would rather have Flynn be our #2.
Jarret Bush should be cut, he's looked god awful.
I like the new defensive formation that we've used the last two games with two defensive ends and four linebackers. Interesting to see if they continue to use it in the regular season.

Wow, from the sounds of it this was a good game for me to be at some of the Jets game for, right?
Reguardless, Sounds like some Oline worries, that had popped up last week as well.

File this under 'Things I'd like to see more of:' Vernand Morency with the ball on the first team. The Packers just ran their best screen in about a year with Morency getting the ball
|
As some fans now, I'm a big advocate of an effective screen game. The Packers all of a sudden went from having the best screen game in the NFL with Ahman Green there to having an almost non-existent one. They did try it a bit last year, with some OK results, but I still think that someone like Vorency or maybe Jackson are perfect RB's for the screen. I think our O-Line has the talent to pull it off too, so here's hoping for more screens in the upcoming season.

This looks like the Packers don't know where they are as far as settling on an offensive line
|
Looks like Spitz had a a bad game, and I guess it's really up in the air who will be the guard's. Coming into TC I was pretty confident there wouldn't be any changes from last years starting OL but I guess that might not be the case now.

I still think Spitz's job is pretty secure. Clifton, Wells, and Tauscher are all locked in where they are. There's really only one spot open and that's the other guard between Sitton, Colledge, Barbre, and Coston, which will also determine which side Spitz plays on.

Saw bits and pieces of the game. That got ugly. Bush should be cut. He looked terrible out there. O-line didnt do good but Rodgers was holding onto the ball too long. Line still has to step up their play.

I don't like the idea of having Spitz at LG, rather have him at RG.
Plus I read somewhere that someone was watching ESPN and they had a clock from when ever Rodgers got the ball from the snap till he was sacked, he only had 2 seconds in the pocket.

I'd like to welcome myself back.
Now, about the OL: We need the center Wells to get healthy. That's crucial.
I know all of us have been down on Colledge last year, but he got better as the season went on, as did the whole OL.
They protected Favre like he was Mother Theresa, and in the last half of the season, they turned an undrafted no-name RB into Larry Johnson.
I expect they will be the same starting 5 in week one as it ended last year. But McCarthy has given all the other characters a chance to step in. I worry more about Spitz getting run over last week.
