no. martyball is normally used 'derogatorily' (accd to the wiki article), hence the and your point is comment...

I personally love it. Time Management and good Defense win lots of games.

I have had my issues with "Marty Ball" due to the fact that it lost us some key games.

It's great to get you to the big show, but to win you have to have some semblance of Balance (Unless your the best single season defense in the history of the game).

Problem is, if the defense can sell out to shut down your run game because your QB is Kordell Stewart, Tommy Maddox, Neil O'Donnell, Kent Graham...

If you have a solid talented QB, a top notch OL, reliable (Not necessarily good) WR's and a top notch defense (top 10)...

Marty Ball will take you to the AFCCG every year.... Having the ability to be balanced in the championships will bring home the lombardi.

All in all I loved Marty Ball. But I did hate when you couldn't do anything because they shut down your run game.

he should. Marty is one of the most underrated and unappreciated HCs of all time.

I credit his lack of playoff success more to terrible luck than poor coaching. He can coach. And he can turn around a franchise.

The Marty playoff experience is very difficult to judge. On the one hand, there definitely have been some extremely flukey, mind numbingly bizarre plays that have knocked him out. You can't possibly blame him for things like The Fumble, or Marlon McCree's 4th down interception and fumble, etc. etc. etc.

However, over the years I do think the lack of playoff success has affected the way he coaches in the postseason--In the two times he took the Bolts to the playoffs, they looked and played noticeably more rigid, and the fact is there were plenty of iffy coaching decisions. The pressure over the decades has become very difficult to ignore for his players.

I still think he is one of the most underrated coaches of all time though, and agree that he deserves more appreciation. I hope he comes back.

I think so.

His only problem is he runs too much. If your looking to start to rebuild a franchise I think he is your guy. IMO the way you build a team is from the inside out and through the running game which is something Marty does.

My evidence is this:
Take a look at the Dolphins this season, Bill Parcells rebuilt the defensive and offensive fronts and now they are much better than last year. They also run alot more which another reason the Dolphins are better.

Marty gets a bad rap for running too much. With the Browns he had Earnest Byner, with the Chiefs he had Marcus Allen, and with the Chargers he had LT. I'd run a lot too.

I remember this interview once where it was Brees and LT talking about Marty Ball and Brees was smiling like, "LT first, second and maybe third down, too." And then the cut to LT who is says with a huge smile, "I love Marty Ball."

But to answer the question, I said no. I think he's run his cycle in the NFL.

Yeah but at some point you have to pass a little bit. I'd run alot as well but not as much as Marty. I mean you have to throw the defense a curve ball at some point. I like running games much more than passing games but you still have to pass so that the defense doesn't know whats coming.
