Because whether the Titans won today or not doesn't matter if the Steelers won today. By winning today, the Steelers have made it so next week's Steelers @ Titans game will determine the #1 seed, regardless of the Texans game. The only way the Texans game mattered is if the Ravens won today.
It's possible if the Titans won today and lost to the Steelers next week that they could still be #1 - the Steelers would have to lose week 17. So the Texans game wasn't entirely useless - losing has eliminated a way for the Titans to clinch the #1. But really, all losing did was make next week's matchup 100% for the #1 seed instead of 99%.
On paper anyway. God knows what it did to the team's morale and health status with Haynesworth going down late.
