I back Penn winning it. I really would've had no problem with any of them getting it, and I'll say that I would've liked to see Rourke get the nod. But I can't say Penn didn't deserve it.

To be fair, Sean Penn doesn't give a **** what you want to hear, and it's his speech.

DeNiro has been great in comedies actually. Meet the Parents/fockers and Analyze This/That were all enjoyable. Also, I enjoyed The Score, Men of Honor, Jackie Brown, and Wag the Dog.

Penn was great as Harvey Milk, but seriously. It's all about Randy "The Ram" Robinson.

That's what you get with Sean Penn.
If Milk wins the Oscar, I'll might start believing it was a Oscar political swoon. kinda.

It should've been Mickey Rourke's speech.

Penn won because of Rourke being Rourke during his speeches at the Spirit and so forth awards, and because the abomination of Crash winning over Brokeback in 2004.

If it wasn't for the shorts, editing, and Penn I would've been perfect.

Or you just picked every pick Vegas predicted. Every winner was the odds on favorite to win. Today they moved Sean Penn and Rourke to about the same odds. I put money when the Grammys were on that Slumdog would win Best Picture and Danny Boyle winning best director. When they added today that you could pick who would win best sound editor I chose The Dark Knight as well. Even for the post production awards Vegas had it spot on.

I never have any idea what Vegas is doing. Not my thing at all.
But yea, all of these WERE pretty clearcut going back as far as the globe nominations. Once Slumdog starting cleaning up the precursors in all of the guild awards, any mystery of this year was gone. Supporting Actress was really the only up for grabs category besides the Best Actor 50/50 for Penn/Rourke. It was just a terribly predictable year for people who pay way too much attention to this stuff (ie me)

Slumdog's odds were 1-4 when I got in and then moved to 1-10 as of today I think.

The only chance for best actress not to be Winslett was Anne Hathaway. Obviously Ledger was going to win no doubt, and Viola Davis was the only competition for Penelope to not win best supporting actress. Danny Boyle and Slumdog were also clear cut favorites. I am proud it was predictable since I made most of my money back from losing on the Grammys. Allison Krauss decided to take my money from me and win every category that I picked Coldplay to win.

I really didn't care for any of those. Meet the Parents/Fockers were decent but comedies aren't DeNiro.
I am really excited about Frankie Machine, where he will re-unite with Michael Mann (from Heat) and I Heard You Paint Houses, where he will re-unite with Scorsese.

Wag the Dog was a fantastic film. Satire at it's best

I enjoyed the Academy Awards a lot more than I thought I would this year. I had already come to terms with Slumdog winning everything before the show (although I loved the movie I thought in no way did it deserve all of those awards) and I thought all of the non award segments this year were actually pretty awesome. I went 16 for 24 in the pool I was in because I stupidly refused to believe Rourke or Tomei would lose and I missed out on a few technical awards by underestimating just how well Slumdog would do. I was not even really that upset when Penn won. Sure I thought Rourke was better and deserved it but Penn was ******* brilliant in Milk IMO and before watching The Wrestler I thought he gave the best lead performance of the year. Although I disagreed with many of the winners I thought this year despite some major snubs the Academy did a pretty good job.
I started reading Public Enemies today during my 6 hour bus and train trip after owning the book for two years and I am enjoying the hell out of it. I am very much excited for the movie adaptation now as the book is great and the casting really is pretty spot on.
I also get my computer back tomorow so I will no doubt be catching up on a lot of movies I missed over the past month which should be pretty fun.

I thought Stiller was ******* brilliant. I still remember the effects award he presented a couple years back where he covered his body in green spandex ala Green Man and started being hilarious. That had my laughing almost as hard as I have ever laughed before and this year he almost topped it. I don't really know why but I just find him so ******* funny every time he presents and does weird **** like that.
I also thought the fact that Franco and Rogan weren't smoking made the bit all the more funny because my grandparents did not get the whole thing and wondered why I thought it was so funny.

Every time I look at the relationship advice thread, I think of this movie. So, I watched it again last night. It's so good.

Red band trailer for The Informers is out, Im really looking forward to it. I am a huge Bret Easton Ellis fan and this was probably my 2nd favorite book of his. Plus, Amber Heard only wears clothes in one scene (there is alot of Amber Heard nudity if you need a reason to watch the trailer)

As well the trailer for "Lesbian Vampire Killers" is out, and along with the best movie title known to mankind, it actually looks pretty hilarious. Almost Simon Pegg-esque. Im pretty excited for it as well.
