Crennel mulling offer to be KC's DC
Crennel mulling Chiefs offer to become DC
Tiny by takclaw on Feb 28, 2009 11:08 PM CST Comment 13 comments
From the Cleveland Plain-Dealer:
Waiting on Romeo: Former Browns coach Romeo Crennel is convalescing from successful hip replacement surgery and weighing an offer to become the defensive coordinator of the Kansas City Chiefs.
The Chiefs are holding the position open for Crennel, who is waiting to learn exactly how long his rehabilitation process will keep him out. The Chiefs may have enticed Crennel a little bit more by trading for New England linebacker Mike Vrabel.
Whether or not Crennel accepts, he has decided not to remain with the Browns in an unspecified role offered by Mangini.
Crennel previously declined an offer to rejoin Charlie Weis as Notre Dame's defensive coordinator. Crennel and Weis were Belichick's coordinators during New England's three Super Bowl championship seasons.

Pretty interesting seeing as most of the media thought and reported the job would go to Gibbs or Pendegrast would take on this role, but I had a feeling something was going on behind the scenes with the Crennel rumors and the big secret behind the roles of defensive coaches. The Chiefs have alot of good veteran coaches with Gibbs, Carthon, Gailey, Pendergrast, Muir, and Crennel likely joining. I'm liking these offseason moves so far.

Crennel would be nice on the Cheifs. A young very talented group of guys. Add in a playing linebacker, a ranging safety, and a decent compliment to Hali, and that could be one of the best young defenses in the game. They better draft Aaron Curry!!

This is what I've suspected all along considering Pendergast was never given an official position yet we are obviously moving to 3-4 given the addition of Vrabel.
I will feel much better about the tranisition to the 3-4 if we have Crennel overseeing the process.

If you want to win then Pendergast should get the DC job over Gibbs all day.

I think Crennel will take it myself, he is still getting over surgery, thus no decision yet.

If the Chiefs can pick up Romeo Crennel as DC and Igor Olshansky to play DE I will be one happy Chiefs fan.

I'm surprised they didn't show more interest in Canty.

As a Browns fan, I felt Romeo got a raw deal, but it happens. I hope he goes to Kansas City and the Chiefs would be lucky to have him.
