Default Donald Washington

The more I think about the drafting of Donald Washington in the 4th round the more I like the move he was simply to good to pass up at that point he was ranked by many as a 2nd or 3rd round pick.

I know we had bigger needs going in to the draft but CB is a position you just can't have enough depth at and we have that now on paper at least something we have not had in years.

We have the makings of a great secondary that is very young and very talented our only weak spot is at SS and lets hope the new coaching staff can get the most out of Pollard or Morgan.

If this works in our favor the secondary as a whole is set for years and we can concentrate on other needs.

Agreed. This pick took me a little by suprise, but we really are only strong 3 deep at corner and more talent is welcomed. He appears to have some very nice long term potential.

Yeha I am jsut wondering how the FO and coaches feel about Leggett and Carr doing man up and zone coverages.

<+BOE> Scott, with Burfict's character concerns (whether legit or not) you think Pioli would draft him. :D
<+ScottWright> Why not. Baldwin does need a sparring partner...

I heard some speculation that he may be a CB/Safety tweener, in which case that might be good news. He seems to have the speed to cover the deep 3rd as a free safety and apparently he is a sure tackler in the open field. Whether he plays a 3rd corner or at free safety that's good news because we don't really have a 3rd corner (Leggett maybe) and Page, Pollard and Morgan all seem more like 3-4 strong safeties as opposed to frees. This gives the Chiefs a lot of versatility which seems to be the M.O. for Pioli.

In the 3-4 that KC will eventually employ, both safeties will be expected to do everything. There's no such thing as SS or FS. Just left and right.

I think Dajuan could be a stud FS, he only has been playing that position 3 years.

So the 3-4 will run a base cover 2 package in the defensive backfield? I believe that is incorrect.

Will be interesting to see what they think of Flowers with his lack of size. Wouldn't surprise me if Washington wasn't a starter before the end of the year. Teams need 3 CBs, and Washington could prove to be a 4th round steal. (I remember a couple old 4th round picks who played well on our defense i.e. Donnie Edwards and Jared Allen).
