Morgan Trent could be alright. He's more physical than we're accustom to here in Cinci, which could be a nice change. I don't think he'll take the nickel spot this year, but maybe in the near future.

That is the kind of CB's that Zim likes. So not too surprising that he was selected.

Bump n' run seems to be one of the hardest things to do in the NFL. I hope Zim does a good job teaching him.

Also, since I never contributed earlier - my initial reaction is that we got a lot of "future" picks, and not a whole of immediate impact players.

Andre Smith - obviously he will make an immediate impact. He's big and strong and can at least play RT if we feel comfortable with Collins at LT. Most people say you don't draft a RT with a top 10 pick, but I disagree. Draft picks aren't worth the same every year, and sometimes a great RT is worth picking up early. However, lets hope he can play LT for Carson's sake :)

Rey Maualuga - The second player that can make an immediate impact. My concern is that we're going to stick him at SLB though. While I think he can handle it, I'd rather not let him get to comfortable there then force him to switch to MLB later. The transition to SLB and then back to MLB could be rough on him.

Michael Johnson - Johnson is obviously a bit of a project. If he contributes anything in 2009 I'll be surprised. The risk was definitely worth it, even in the third round, though. I'm hopeful for Odom and Geathers still, but if they don't get their act together this year, hopefully Johnson can replace one next year.

Chase Coffman - He seems like he's basically a glorified receiver. His lack of blocking ability, and the number of targets we already have says to me that he won't be very helpful early on. However, I trust this coaching staff to further improve his receiving skills (that seems to be our greatest strengths) and hopefully teach him to block. I could see Coffman becoming a probowl receiving TE in 2-3 years. Furthermore, he's another exciting addition to the new regime of receivers with Jerome Simpson and Andre Caldwell.

Jonathan Luigs - He's smart and athletic, but unfortunately doesn't seem all that strong. My concern here is that he seems like he might fit in the mold of Ghiaciuc. His lack of strength might hurt him in our division, but lets hope with the right conditioning and surrounding offensive linemen that he can progress and succeed.

Kevin Huber - I kind of like Kyle Larson, but I understand his lack of leg strength is a cause for concern. Huber's got a strong leg, and is, in my opinion, the best punter in this draft class. The pick seemed early, but you can never overlook special teams and Marvin knows that.

Morgan Trent - we talked about it earlier, but he's slightly more physical than both Hall and Joseph. Let's hope that Zimmer can mold him into a nickel back quickly because we desperately need one if Chris Crocker is going to be playing Safety.

Bernard Scott - Yeah yeah, we're all aware he's had some arrests. And obviously if he gets in more trouble you just scrap your loses and cut him. However, the upside here is huge. I'm not sure our coaching staff is the best choice to tame this kid, but if we can do it he'll be a nice addition to a terrible running back roster.

Fui Vakapuna - FB is definitely a need, but again, I'm not sure this guy can start over Jeremi Johnson or Daniel Coats (assuming Daniel is a FB and not a TE next year). decent pick for the 7th round and admittedly I know very little about him outside of what I heard after we drafted him.

Clinton McDonald - Another guy that will likely spend a lot of time on the bench. He's a little undersized and I don't see the value here. With Tank Johnson, Peko, Pat Sims and Shirley all on the roster I highly doubt he sees any action any time soon. However, he's a smart kid and we all know Marvin Lewis has been screwed over by injuries one to many times, so you know he's just trying to build depth.

Freddie Brown - Don't get this pick. We've got so many WR's and WR projects that I don't know if he'll even make the roster. Although he is smart and has good size. If he does end up making the roster, I hope he can help us go undefeated one day too ;)

Anyways, in the end, the only guys I see as locks to start are Andre Smith & Rey Maualuga. And after that, possibly Huber and Luigs - and believe it or not - Bernard Scott (if for nothing else than the fact that he has very little competition outside of Cedric Benson).

Gotta say I disagree on the guys being immediate impact.

We got almost definitely 3 starters (Smith, Maualuga, Huber). Johnson should see time from the beginning as a pass rusher which we definitely needed. He's not a 3 down DE but would provide fresh legs to get at the QB. Coffman could also see a decent amount of PT. Scott could definitely see the field given our lack of depth at RB. I hope Jeremi Johnson is back to his old self but given that injury, Vakapuna is a nice backup plan. Coats isn't a FB if you ask me. I really really really hope Luigs ends up starting this year, I can't see the other options at this point being that much better.

I can't see many other teams having more guys that will produce immediately. Last season was a much better example of players for development over immediate production.

The only thing I miss (other than a top C) in this draft is a kick returner... We really need one that can have an impact.

lol, Punters and Kickers get NO respect.

Why do you think Freddie Brown deserves an F?
