I don't quite get what your saying....

Are you saying that what he is saying is historically/theologically weak/innaccurate or that most people are idiots when it comes to their knowledge of history and wouldn't know that he's being what I said before?

Me too. I just shook my head and chuckled, same as I did w/the Joker Jetsons joke and the "brown or pink" nonsense that I posted. W/o a sense of humor about such stupidity I would have pulled a William Foster years ago.

My biggest question with randomferret's post is the curious use of the (non)word "retcons" . . .

The whole post reeks of redneck, though, so I guess I shouldn't be surprised by the lack of spelling skills on what I assume is supposed to be "reckons." Not that it matters much, since it makes no sense to say something "reckons the last one like it never happened."

To that end, I always check before claiming a word does not exist using the old standards in dictionaries: Merriam-Webster and Cambridge.

If those are the only sources you use to make sure that words are real, then good luck if you ever have to write a paper about the internet and the hundreds, if not thousands, of new words it's development has brought with it.

My days of paper writing are behind me, but those 2 are generally updated as slang terms become accepted words. The fact that the internet accepts them does not make them words. The exact opposite of what you tell me can be said right back.

This retcon is an excellent example as it is not really a word. Rather, it is an accepted contraction of 2 words. The availability of a definition on the web does not mean it is truly a word. I can find the definition for PIIDB but that doesn't make it a word.

Well, we're living in a time where lines like what is "real" and not are becoming more and more blurred.......

So maybe it's not a "real" "word" but it's......an accepted word with a fairly widely known definition. I think if you used it in a paper, and then defined it after it's first use, it would be ok to keep using. I've done that plenty with other modern slang kind of words.
