Jerry Jones has shot this down about 10 times already. And we already have three QBs, one of which is a rookie. So we have no room for him, even if we wanted him.

In related note...Stephen Mcgee has been the joke of camp thus far. Wade said he was pretty decent today but, he has been just awful. I've heard Rudy Carpenter has looked better. bleh. It's going to take a while w/ Mcgee.

But anyway, it's certainly evident that we plan on shortening things up. Implimenting quicker/shorter dropbacks and higher percentage throws. With Garrett running things, we wont be a "power" running team....but, we should atleast see an increase in it...but the dynamic wont be changed completely according to the staff. We're still going to pass, a whole lot...but, it should be much more efficient. Given that we can actually hold onto the football. Roy hasnt given me much faith in the practice sessions thus far. His hands are more natural than T.O.'s but they're not any better than his.

But, I'm starting to drink the team's koolaid as a whole...I think we can be real good.
No sarcasm, I have complained about the 5/7 step drops for some time as well as Romo's poor mechanics at time.

I too think, barring injury at the OL or MLB, we can be very very very good.

McGee is another blown Jerry pick. He completely mismanaged this draft.

Anything other then TO/Roy talk is music to my ears.

McGee is a project anyway, he wouldn't be expected to step in until what, 4 years or so? He has tools to work with, and alot of those resemble Romo, so I'm fine with the struggles honestly because it's a complex offense and we don't need him anytime soon.

If he looks like trash/garbage in 2 years then I'll be concerned, but our offense is probably alot different then A&M, hopefully he starts to get it together over the course of a few years. If he is expected to play at all before 2-3 years then we have a serious problem somewhere else, because Romo should have more years left then that.

Jason Williams has also looked lost, but we need him to be ready by next year, he's potentially expected to start full time for that ILB spot next to Bradie by next year, he's another guy looked at as a semi project by me so I'm not alarmed by him struggling now.

We can all just look at Martellus Bennett for the easiest example.

His Training Camp last year was horrendous, simply terrible, and look at him now, in one year he's the standout of our camp.

Some guys just take some time. Speaking of that Mickens is another one who is going to take some time. I'll be pissed off if we try to sneak him to the PS and he doesn't clear waivers, hell if Erik Walden was scooped up last year after proving nothing Mickens would never make it.

I also love what Ogletree has shown and he should of been drafted anyway, he's likely going to be our 5th WR if Stanback isn't healthy and I like it.

I honestly dont think Mcgee will ever start for us. I def. see Romo here for another 4+ years. I know some are down on Romo but, I think he's going to be just fine. The fans have turned on him quickly.

As for some camp stuff...

Mickens speed has been a bit of a problem at camp...he was doing great until they learned you could beat him deep. He's been having some rough sessions...and Deangelo Smith had a really bad day today.

Miles Austin had a real solid practice today on the offensive end. And Roy was said to have his best practice. Although, he did drop a few, including one in the end zone.

More videos...

http://www.dallascowboys.com/multime...dia_center.cfm

Lots of good stuff. Hot headed Colombo getting in a fight w/ Ratliff, Hurd on working hard, Bobby interview, Crayton interview, Olshansky interview, and Ray Sherman talking about the receivers. Mostly gushing about Hurd. haha.

Seriously...Hurd always says what you want to hear. Love that guy. :)

Ray Sherman also said there is no WR competition. It's Crayton's job...and in another interview, he reiterated what Wade said. Miles and Sam are competing but not for a spot. Sounds like they're all going to play a whole lot.

Both OLBs have looked great...especially Brandon Williams. And I havent heard one bad thing about Michael Hamlin yet. He's just making plays.

As for a run down...

Jason Williams: Picking things up very slowly, thus far. But the potential has been evident. He hasnt always been in the right place but, Wade has said his speed and athleticsm have enabled him to get back into position and make plays. It's going to take some time with him as well but, he's a freak. Bobby Carpenter has that nickel LB role on lock, though. And unless Jason starts to really pick it up...that job is probably Bobby's all year.

Robert Brewster: Torn Pectoral

Stephen Mcgee: Worst arm in camp by far. Gun shy and nicknamed Captain checkdown or Mr. checkdown...you get the idea. Ball hasnt been on point, either. We all knew he was a bit of a project, though. I still hate this pick.

Vic Butler: Picked things up very quickly. Wade loves him already...He knows exactly where to be and what to do. And had shown a plethera of really solid pass rushing moves. He's been making plenty of plays.

Brandon Williams: Wade has called him freakishly strong on a couple of occassions. He's bested our starting tackles several times and his name is brought up frequently in practice recaps. He's playing real well already. And he's surprised the coaches with his ability against the run.

Deangelo Smith: He's been quiet but, that's a good thing. Until today he's been very consistent. He also has a chance to win the punt return job.

Michael Hamlin: The most impressive rookie so far. Making plays all over the field...he has a couple of acrobatic ints. He's also being used in a dime LB role...he should see the field a lot this year. The dmn bloggers...again, bleh...think he has future starter written all over him.

David Buehler: Has been very impressive as well...Booming kickoffs into the end zone on a consistent basis. Being used in a bunch of ways, as well...kick off specialist, holder, up back, wedge duty.

Stephen Hodge: Best LB at OTAs...injured, just got back to practice yesterday.

Manny Johnson: Pretty much a ghost. No shot to make the team.

Sorry, it's not that in depth...but it will give you an idea.

edit...

Kevin Ogletree: Taking full advantage of Stanback being out. He has a big lead over the rest of the guys battling for the 5th spot...especially since Jefferson has cooled and has the dropsies. Ogletree just keeps making plays with the 2nd and 3rd units. He's a step above the rest...and he can return kicks as well. Stanback better come back sharp or he can be in trouble...w/ Ogletree's emergence.

I agree with all of that, very fair, and sounds accurate from what I've read also.

Very encouraging the way our OLB's have been playing, you really can never have enough pass rushers and two isn't enough, if these two continue to pick things up they'll come into play on certain situations.

They were the Pac 10 and Big XII sack leaders so they know how to get after the QB, but they have been impressing versus the run also...If we can get some consistency up front on the line I think we have alot to be excited about on defense this year.

Yup. I was real happy about us getting Williams...I liked Vic Butler, too but I thought we reached for him for sure but, it may not end up being that big of a deal. He's taken to 3-4 OLB position very quickly...and that says a lot since he wasnt able to attend OTAs with school and all.

And we've heard it before but Spears has been awfully impressive apparently, after a slow start. He's cut a lot of weight, down to 307 and Wade says he's the quickest he's ever seen him.

And Marcus Dixon is another guy who's having a solid camp. I heard he blew up a couple of runs today, also. He too, has really shaped up. Wade also said his strength gains have been better than anyone elses over the off-season. We all know about his little run in w/ the law but, he seems like a pretty good kid for the most part. Well spoken and driven as well.

That's another thing...I absolutely love this group we have. When coaches are asked about our guys, they almost always use the word, smart. Regardless of who they're talking about. And I buy it, we have a good group here. Seems like a very intelligent team...and they're all extremely hard workers. Jason Williams has a good interview on dallascowboys.com as well. He's a smart kid and wants to be great. He's always one of the first on the field and he's been in the film room more than anyone. Gotta love that.

Thanks for the quick run down.

I'm very excited to hear about Buehler's kicks being consistently kicked in the endzone. Haven't witnessed it myself yet, but when I do, you're gonna bet I'm going to be one of the happiest guys in town. I can't wait. That alone might be our biggest improvement in special teams. I was surprised that we drafted him and am happy that we did. I don't even think he was a reach. That was one of the few picks I liked... in addition to the Smith, Hamlin and Mickens picks. All the others I was very meh on. I mean I liked Jason Williams but I was too busy moping about Gilbert being taken right ahead of us.

All I hope from McGee is him being a capable backup. Not a starter one day. If it happens great, but it's not something I'm expecting out of him. Didn't love that pick either. I just thought we reached on a lot of our early picks and then found good value on our late picks. ha. Ironic.

I'm hearing great things about Butler that make me excited, but this is the first I've heard good about B. Williams. So that's nice.

Problem with the slants is that Romo and Roy's timing isnt there yet and Roy has probably dropped more in practice than he's caught...even on good balls. :/

But our offense will surely have plenty of that this year...lets just hope our guys can hold onto the ball.
I've only been paying attention to what players are making plays. In fact, I've seen no analysis that has said Tony is taking more 3 step drops.

It's hard for a coach to change his ways. Ill believe it when I see it.

I forgot Mike Mickens...

I touched on that before, though. He was looking great early...batting down a lot of passes, picking a few off. Getting rave reviews. But, he got beat deep once...and they tried it again, then again, and then again. His speed may be a bit of a problem. He says he's at 100% so that may be a little more alarming.

As for Williams...take it for what it's worth but, Tim Mcmahon said that several of the bloggers agreed that if Spencer or Ware went down...Williams would be the one ready to jump in there right now. And could hold his own, probably. I dont like Mcmahon all that much, though...more so than anything, it's that hard on he has for Miles Austin. lol. He has some good things to say but, some things will make you scratch your head. I love that the dmn blog gives us these practice updates, though.

I dunno.. I still think false start Flozell is still dumb. ...Marcus Spears has always seemed mentally weak to me. Parcells had him report to his first training camp at 305 (reported to rookie mini camp at 325) and raved about his work ethic to get there, so I'm not all impressed to hear that he's now 307 and lookin' fast. Ratliff not wanting to play DE sounded dumb to me.

Getting rid of Roy and Henry definitely helps us in that regard though. lol.

The smartest guy still has to be Romo though. We can't afford late season melt downs as we've been accustomed to seeing.

It has been touched on...and if you read the live updates. Most of the receptions are brought in on short outs, short crosses, or slants. Hurd has made a killing on the outs and Austin had done a very good job on the crosses and ins. Lots of shorter timing routes have been implemented. And almost every time you see Williams' name it's Romo trying to get to him on a slant. Normally ends in a break up or drop, though. :( Not the greatest of signs.

Garrett has changed a lot of things, it seems. I still see us as a pass first team, though...but like I said before, that should be more efficient. And the majority of the time during camp, Witten and Bennett are on the field together. Doesnt exactly bode well for the lengthiest of passes. Things will def. be shortened up this year. Garrett still really worries me but, everything out of camp has been positive on his direction. That's great to hear.

If anything, I'd like to hear Romo testing the waters a little more...because, we will need him to be sharp on the deep ball when we actually do go for it.

I said, we've heard this before...kind of like I was saying...same old song here. It's always Marcus Spears year, apparently...we all know this. But anyway, if he can be as good as last year, I'm absolutely fine with that. Spears wasnt amazing but, he did a lot of good last year. Fourth on the team in tackles for loss, not many but not terrible. And he had more QB pressures last year than any of his previous years.

He and Jenkins have been fantastic. That's all you need to know. They're pretty much the talk of camp so far. Wade has nothing but great things to say about both. Scandrick just keeps working to get better and Jenkins has a new swagger about him, like he had in college. He's confident, over confident and he's shutting everyone down. Still think Jenkins holds onto the starting job but, both have been very impressive.

Would be more impressive if it was somebody other than Roy, though. The guy has the loosest helmet in the game. He never buckles it up, not even during real games.
